I am just looking for peoples opinions on this.
Some people say they HAVE to have some kind of meaning. Others say, get'em if you like them. What do you think?

I dont think so. Tattoos with meaning are great.......tattoos just because you like them, are also great. I have a fairy tattoo on my leg, it has no great meaning behind it, except for the fact that I've loved fairies for years.....Maybe , in the future something will happen that I can incorporate into my tattoo but for now, its just because I enjoy it. I think in order for all tattoos to have meaning, we'd all have to wait for something really great or really tragic to happen to us.

So if you want your tattoos to have meaning, more power to you..but if you have tattoos just because theyre something you like , thats great too. Maybe the meaning behind my tattoos are that I love art so much, that I want it on my body :)

My first tattoo jogged my memory of a vehicle I as soon as owned that is how deep I viewed its which means, nevertheless now while you see all of them in combination I had one pal say they gave the impression of I was once dressed in black frame armour, unconscious??? i don,t recognise. But the detail of going via ache does play a function, now not at the masochistic stage however as a ceremony of passage. Don,t believe this demonstrates a deeper effervescent psychosis ready to spill over subsequent time any individual upsets me, because the proposal within the feedback already published might point out, as socially I revel in plenty of severe interests, and push myself to get larger adrenaline rushes, tattoo,s are simply a further rush. But I do revel in that I am stereotyped and individuals do hinder dialog with me simply at the foundation that I am closely tattoo,d, all it does is exhibit the sector is a ignorant position, and if they have got shaped the foundation to not talk to me on that stage every other opinion they maintain must even be disregarded.

It depends on the tat you decide on. If you get something meaningful to yourself, then it would mean something, if you get a generic tribal armband then it may not mean anything. The Fact of the matter is once you get it, it's there and it's not going anywhere without pain and money.
I have "Carpe Diem" across the top of my back because it's a daily reminder that everyday could be my last; that's why I got it and I picked a font size and color scheme "I Liked" done by an artist with a background, even though people say letters are simplistic (They are still permanent)

I don't have any. Yet. I personally believe that they should have meaning. I plan on getting my first one in memory of my father, probably some form of a cross since he was going to school to become a pastor when he passed away, I'm not sure exactly what is going on there yet. A tattoo is there for life. Tweety Bird won't be that cool when you're 84, but something with meaning will still matter.

WELL i suppose either answer is correct from any point of view other than your own . But think about it this way , when your old and wrinkled do you want your "unique" tattoo to look like some weird thing or like a wittled butterfly or a dead rose ? It depends on you at least when you have a tattoo w/meaning you can look back on it and say "yeah that time in my life was great!!Good luck

they don't HAVE to have meaning. i think people prove that every day when they walk into a shop and pick something off of the wall and get it inked. BUT generally when people get a tattoo that means something to them they end up enjoying it for much longer than people who just chose one coz it's cool or cute.

all of my tattoos mean something to me and i am pretty sure that all of the tattoos that i get from here on out will mean something to me because i realize how permanent they actually are. when people see my tattoos and ask about them i like to be able to say "i got this because..." and not just say "i thougt it was cool" it's not a necessity but it does help to have a meaningful tattoo which is why i particularly hate HATE hate tribal tattoos on people unless they are actually from a heritage that has a tradition in tribal tattoos!!! grrr!

As a tattoo artist, every tat I have put on has had a meaning to the person who got it. They all tell the story as to why they want that particular design. The last one was a cadussa for a diabetic who continuously lost his medical bracelet. Yes tats have some kind of meaning, always!

Different people do different things. I personally think that a tattoo should have a personal meaning...like I wouldn't get one just because it was "cool" for that moment....because definitions of what's "cool" change. When I say "have meaning" - it could even just be something that is a representation of you and your personality. If it means something to you personally, less likely that you may regret it later and it also really says something about you and your appreciation of the art form.

For ME, PERSONALLY, they have to have meaning, but that is just for ME.

I think that If I have tattoo's that mean something I will still like them when I'm old. My taste seem to change throughout the years and tats are forever. What I like now, I may hate 10 years from now.

But no, I dont think it HAS to have meaning. It is a matter of personal choice

no they don't HAVE to have meaning but it is way better if they do. i have 4 and only 1 has meaning and that is the only one i really love. the others are just there. if you are going to get one think long and hard about what you want. make it have meaning because later on in like you will look at it and think back to when why and where you got it.
