This is just an opinion.
I think President Bush (the son ) sometimes is trying to atone for his fathers mistakes in the first U,S/ Iraq war.
I remember a time when the eldest President Bush was criticize for not finishing up the war in Iraq stopping at the the boarder and letting Saddam Hussein retain power.
Imagine all the criticism that he had to endure.
If I recall correctly Bush was heavily demean by abandoning the Iraq people in their fight for freedom from a dictator
Well this President rushed into war with Iraq to rectify those mistakes but in the process underestimated the Iraqian people.
He did get Saddam Hessian but he did not anticipate that a civil war would erupt and now if the U.S leaves the region he will have the same legacy as his Father (Abandonment of the Iraqi people seeking freedom ) What he fails to realize that a democratic Iraq will not come about without a Civil War. A civil war that Iraq must face alone only then will Iraq have a chance to be a democratic nation or not( hell Virginia and Germany are good example not to mention Our own civil war.
And as long as President Bush is office I think he will continue to think that if he leaves Iraq before a democratic state is in power he will face the same type of failures people thought of his father before him.

Reason and logic are forbidden from coming within 10 miles of the White House, didn't you listen to Limbaugh the other day?
He'll throw more troops and money at the problem, and people will only follow until their hearts or pocketbooks break. Enough of this death machine, go find some other way to line your pockets.

He listens to reason just not yours. He listens to people who are qualified to advise him. He knows things you do not. What do you want him to change? The war on terror? good idea lets pretend there aren't thousands of Islamic freaks trying to kill us. Maybe they will go away if we ignore them. Clinton ignored them and look what happened.3,000 dead in minutes. See what is going on in Iraq? That could be here. Wake up the world is full of evil people

because good ole boys have a hard time accepting that someone else knows more than them. it's a generational thing, my way or the highway, do as I say, not as I do, etc. the hipocrisy, the lies, and the alibis are pathetic!! time for america to get angry about being treated as mindless drones and remember what "we the people" was meant when it was first scribed by our founding fathers. what power do the people truly have other than to vote in a new generation of polititians that treat their constituates like they would want their mothers treated.

Bush deals in power. He believes power creates reality. So, reason operates on the world as it is. Bush believes he can fashion the world to suit him as there is no one to stop him. Sort of like Lex Luthor on LSD, or something.

Edit: OK, I'm feeling you're feedback folks, it's not too popular with the masses but it stays in the routine.

He sees no value in deviating from his present course of action, if he pulls out he looks weak and if he stays he looks stupid. It is a no win situation for him, but he does not want to leave a legacy as a stupid AND weak president.
He is in his second term so reelection is not an issue so he can afford to look stupid.

He is trying to save his "legacy" as president. He knows that he is now the worst pres. in US history and he is willing to sacrifice 20,000 troops to try to change that fact.
