I am 19 years old - i receive some type of social security benifits because my father passed away when i was 15 --- so i was receiving those benifits upto the age of 18 ... well this year i got 3 months of checks ( before i turned 19 ) ... and now i want to know if i haveee to claim these 3 months of benifts? I didnt recieve anything from the state to do my taxes with ... and now im getting them done tomorrow ... and i want to make sure im not doing anything illiegal by not showing those 3 months worth of social security checks [ before i was 19 ]

You must treat them the same way they were treated in past years (taxable, I assume). The nature of the income hasn't changed.

IRS notice 2008-5, which was issued yesterday, allows your boyfriend to claim Caleb as a dependent. 2008-5 reversed IRS policy which had been in affect since 2005. Had you asked on Monday instead of today the answer would have been no.

Yes, you have to claim those 3 months. The state is not required to provide tax forms for a few more weeks. I'd delay your appointment or be prepared to file an amended return when you get your statement for the disability.
