Yes, it happens all the time. Some of the best marriages there is are non Christian marriages.
A marriage works not because of religion, but because of the co operation of the two people involved. An equal partnership between two equal people working together for the common good of them both.
Religion does not define the co operation of two people in fact sometimes it divides them.
Most marriages succeed or fail due to the choice of mate they chose. If you use common sense and make sure both of you are compatible then it should work just fine. Two people must have the same core purpose in life and want the same things as far as children and what they fell work should be as far as time and such.
Some of the worst marriages were ones that they felt that God brought them together and the two people used no common sense in picking their mate.

Yes it can, regardless if God is part of it or not. It's not a strictly religious only event that many religious people make it out to be. For them it may be, but not for everyone. After all, this is one of the key arguments used against gay marriage, yet here, it seems to be proven that marriage doesn't have to be about God. Ok, so that last sentence was a bit off topic, but I wanted to prove a point.

that is a very important question..
It is like calling General motors and asking if a particular car can run without it's motor...
It is wise to consult with the people who made it..... they would know more about it than any other person..
So it would only make since to consult the Person who created marriage... God..(the true Living God..not the false things or people, that some worship as gods)
A car can still roll without a motor; you can push it, you can roll it down hill, you could even get another vehicle to transport or pull it..ect.. But that is not the way a car was intended to be opperated... and after some time that will get very old...
What does God say about this question since he knows more about it than any of us answering you.
You gotta search the manufacturers manual-THE HOLY BIBLE..
But keep in mind, marriage is not for every human, some choose not to marry.
Jesus said it best when he said, "Except the Lord build a house, they labor in vain who build it.." Look in the back of your bible to find this scripture... check key words..
So my final answer is, a marriage without God in it is like a car with no motor in it; and He never intended anyone to try to maintain a marriage, or personal life, without Him... Our sin problem is the thing that tears all things down in relationships.. We, meaning you and I all and all these readers, don't know how to rid ourselves of the sin nature within us.. Ta-Daaaa! That is where Jesus stepped in.. to free us from the old sin nature and give us a new birth, with a new nature that is created in the Righteousness, and true Holiness of God... This new nature is what is needed in order to not only have a loving healthy marriage, but healthy friendships, and relationships...
Without it, through faith in God... sin will pull us into a the pig-slop of this world's system.. which means sure misery, failure, shame, guilt, hatred, lust, witch craft, murder, lying, and on and on... (ie The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life..) It aint no game, it affects every single human, wheather you believe in God or not, black, white, red, yellow or brown).... this is real.

No it cannot. Cords of 3 are stronger than those of 2.
God is the original originator of marriage. Without his guidance and counsel in the matter, a marriage is quick to fall to pieces.
It may be fine for a while, but it can't work without God in it forever! Trust!

Considering there are more life-long married atheist couples than life-long Christian couples, in the USA at least (speaking statistically, not raw numbers)... the question should be...
Can a marriage work WITH God in it?

Yes, of course. Just as a marriage in whichboth parties are God fearing can fail.

If God does the dishes and takes out the garbage, the marriage will work better; if he's a faceless ethereal being, however, I doubt it will have much impact either way...

Sure can, neither of my parents were religious and at the time that my father passed away last year they had been married 53 years. It depends on the people, not their superstitions.
