I am a woman of color with permed Afro - American hair. I'm looking for suggestions on products to use before blow drying that will help protect my hair from the heat and also make it shiny after blowdrying and straightening without weighing down my hair. My hair always look dry and dull after blow drying and straightening it . Thanks

Biolage Thermal Setting Spray or Kenra Thermal Setting Spary (which is my favorite and has a nice hold factor too it)! As for shine I like TIGI Bedhead Girl Toys, Sebastian Gloss Drops, Paul Mitchell's Gloss Serum, etc! I say go with professional products, they cost more but are well worth the buy and effective! Also there is a nice smoothing cream by TIGI Bedhead Called After Party and Matrix has a nice smoothing cream as well for extra sheen!

For straightening try Matrix SLEEK line! They have a shampoo, conditioner, and cream (Extreme or Lite), then after blowstyling use their water free lockdown spray (I live by it) it will prevent humidity from reverting your hair back to curly and/or frizzy! A good hairspray with humidty resistance is Sebastian Shaper and Shaper Plus!

Hey, I am a stylist and I do straighten my hair every day. You are doing what you need to, if you are using a heat protector you are ok. My only suggestion is not to blow dry and straighten your hair every day. Try taking a break and only washing your hair every other day to further prevent more damage. Try using a conditioning mask on your hair about every other week this will also help A LOT with the breakage.

use john frieda shine serum.
Before you blow dry use any type of "lotion like" hair protectant. When you are done blow drying and ready to straighten use nexus straighter protectent. It is pretty expensive but REALLY awesome product
PS...Straightening your hair is going to ruin it. btw staight is out and wavy/curly is in
