It is sad that there always been war and it will always be going on. Wars are fought for good and bad reasons. Yes some is for power, greed, religion(like today's terrorist) others been about freedom. Someone will always try to take what is yours. Be it property, loyalty, service, lives.
War civil war or nation vs nation is no different then gangs vs gangs, criminals vs people neighbor vs neighbor its just on a bigger scale.
We a far from ever ending war. Until every single human being all over the world 1st world 3rd world can stop. It will never happen. People will always justify to rise up for a cause to fight. We can only stop war if everyone believes the same way and feel content or just put in charge a dictator for the whole world who has the only and absolute authority and we must submit and give up all rights.

The biggest cause for war over the centuries, has been religion!

Why this raises so much ire amongst men, that they are ready to kill or die over it, is the biggest mystery of all.

There seems to be a strong correlation between religion and ignorance., that provokes irrational thinking in man. The believers of Islam seem to be a good example of this. So many ignorant people are ready to die for their religious causes because someone told them its the thing to do. While Saddam was in power, he would encourage Palestinians to blow themselves up against the Jews, and if they did it, he would pay their families $25,000 dollars. Profit motive, perhaps! I doubt that many grieving parents turned down the money.

Or, how about the virgin thing! What genius thought that one up? This religion was thought up six hundred years after the death of Christ. How the hell does a religion thought up by a guy by the name of Muhammad, get so damn big. Ignorance, this is the only thing I can think of.

There hasnt always been wars... Wars didnt start untill homosapes started to take land that wasnt rightfuly there land by force. Kinda like what we are doing in Iraq... By over populating in areas and thus having to expand into new ones. Like what is happening in most of africa. There would need to be a major shift in the way people think before wars were less of a part of humanity let alone stop all together. People build technologys without understanding what may come of them a possibly huge mistake waiting to happen. I'm not anti technology just anti technology we dont understand enoth to know the concequenses of useing. Of course we dont really know the pros/cons of any technology we invent how could we?

Atheists will blame religion, religious nuts will blame other religious nuts, gender nazis will blame testosterone overload, self-loathing weenies will decry all manner of human fallability.

But the truth is simpler and more inescapable...War endures because there has always been something (real or imagined) that is worth the fight.

Is that so bad? After all, what does it say about your life if you have nothing that you'd defend to the death? What does it say about your character if you have nothing for which you'd sacrifice your life?

I like the answer about organized religions, heh heh...

It boils down to this simple principle:
given human nature, it is desirable to obtain goods (land, power, status, etc) and logical to maintain them.

Apply that to two different sets of people: both desire and both keep goods, therefore, one will want to take from the other. If both are rational they will find a way to share, but mass behavior over time is chaotic and eventually the balance is broken, resulting into war.

The claim about organized religion is true. It basically labels the group it represents as "good", and other groups as wrong (or different, in the best case), making it easy for one to feel the right to take from the other.

Because people refuse to obey the three basic rules of existence.
1, My freedom stops where yours starts.
2. I won't kill you and don't you kill me
3. I will not covet what is not mine.

Most war, no matter what high minded ideals people claim they are founded on or being fought to actualize, is about taking what is not yours, holding people to a standard that one does not hold oneself to, and wanting what the other guy has.

Its sad to say, that all animals have a warlike tendency, but perhaps if there was no religion, there would have been far, far less wars.
