In the US, most meteorologists work for universities and Federal agencies, including the National Weather Service, NOAA, NASA, Forest Service, Coast Guard, or military. Most of the research is done by NOAA or universities. In the private sector, insurance companies, agricultural companies, and a few networks hire meteorologists. Most of the weather people on TV are just announcers.
