This is a concept that not only parents, but that extended family and then friends help to shape ideas and views that we develop over time.

The ideal is that the whole "village" will help in a positive way as the child grows & learns from the positive example of those that live in the 'child's village' - or very small community .

Not only does it mean that children need many positive influences throughout their lives, but also more. One person cannot raise a child alone without completely wearing themselves. One person cannot watch a child every waking hour of the day. One person cannot teach a curious mind all that it thirsts to know and needs to know. It takes a village to teach them, to care for them, to watch over and protect them, and to guide them wisely.
And by the way, yes actually your mother, mother in law, and total strangers that are mothers may know more than you. It's much easier when we can keep our cool and see that people just want to help, then we can learn from the mistakes and wisdom of other mothers. It's just like training for a new job or growing up as a teenager...some advice may not do you any good, but many people know a little more than you, especially when they have raised children and you are just begining.

Yes, and no. It means simply that she believes in a Marxist philosophy and wants you to do the same, so she uses phrases like this to pull at peoples emotions. If she were the supreme leader of the United Socialist States of America, she would not be pulling on your heart strings, she would be marching you off to the gulag if you disagreed with her. Do not be fooled with all of this soft talk, this woman desires to be a dictator, and she has convinced quite a few that she is the right one. Sad commentary on this great nation wouldn't you say?

I think this metaphor means that children is the
greatest gift we can recieve from God. Children are the hope of our future!
They will be the next generation which will create a better world for themselves as well as for others. They remind us of how we used to be when we were young and full of life.
As we get older, we hopefully will always be a part of their lives whether we are here or in the next life.

For this to happen, everyone, especially parents must strive to develop a deep and loving bond with their children. This includes their teachers, friends, and other important individuals in the child's life should be supportive, kind, and caring towards them.
As they grow up, they will be a reflection of who we are . the old saying is : "we reap what we sow".

Actually it makes sense, it means not just the parent's are involved in raising a child but others in the community. And we all are when you think about it.

It means that a child needs many positive influences to be a happy, well rounded individual. You can not shelter the child. You need the child to experience it's culture and everything about his/or her background.

It means that strangers, other mothers, teachers, and your charming mother in law all feel they have permission to dig their oar in and tell you what to do with your child because they just know they are sooo much smarter than you and know sooo much more about your genetic offspring.
