I told a good girl friend that we should talk about whether we should be friends or more. She seemed to like me, and I liked her too. Anyway, her family decided to come over, and we talked then. She seemed eager yet somewhat nervous about talking during dinner, so when we talked later, she said not to make it awkward. I told her I cannot date her, but she asked questions. At the end, she said we can still enjoy a good friendship, but she avoided me for the rest of the evening. Why did she avoid me??

I would think that your telling her that you can't date her has turned her off to you. She may need time to mend - evidentally, she felt stronger for you than even you realize. I don't know what the situation is here, but she may want more than just being friends.

Maybe her feelings are hurt becasue she wanted more and she was played afterwards ... It really feels awkward when you want to be with someone but they don't want to be with you
