Red and blue make purple. On the back of the food coloring box, it will tell you how many drops of each you need to make the color. It also give you other color combinations :-)

Use red and blue food coloring. Make sure and use a little at a time, starting with the red. You probably wont need as much blue unless you want it REALLY purple.

get some purple food coloring or get red and blue food coloring and mix it together in the frosting

red and blue food colouring. you can buy it in the grocery store where all the baking stuff is. don't add too much though it might make the frosting runny. i might suggest that you get purple sprinkles instead and cover the top compleatly with it. it might work out better.

Sounds like you might be putting too much blue and not enough red. Take it a couple drops at a time until you reach desire color. That's really all I can think of to do.
