A wild song sparrow doe not live well in Captivity and will die quickly, usually not living more than a few month due to stress and unhappiness being caged. A domesticated song sparrow can have a average life span of 3 to 5 years. The smaller the bird the shorter the life expectancy. mainly cause of the wear and tear daily life has on that small and fragile body. Sparrows dont talk, they dont have memory retention for it. Larger birds have bigger brains and vocal cords equiped for it. Most mimmick birds are larger, more in the crow size.

Depends on the animal..Some animals have more predators in the wild, and don't require difficult care, and can live longer in captivity. Cranes are an example — They live 20-30 years in the wild, and 80 years maximum in captivity. Some other animals hardly live long in the captivity, due to the need of a large amount of space, and not much knowledge on them. The great white shark is an example — Prior to August, 1981, no great white shark in captivity lived longer than 11 days. The best evidence available suggests that they live approximately 30 to 40 years in the wild.

No, they will not talk. As far as their life span in captivity, I dont know. Probably not long, as they are migratory birds and would probably pine away if held captive. That being said, its a serious Federal offense to keep a native bird in captivity. You seriously can go to jail.
