Crate CRATE CRATE!!
puppies feel safe in a crate because are denning animals. Like a Coyote of wolve, puppies stay close to the den while momma is hunting, If you put the puppy in the crate and latch it, they won't be bored and will sleep the day away not tearing up stuff. Check your local thrift store in all likelihood you find a crate on the shelf there.. If not buy one at Pet Smart or Walmart.
Worth there weight gold when you have a new pup in the house. Put a blanket, a favorite toy and something with your scent on it in the crate and you have a happy puppy ready to go out and poo when you get you, feed and water outside of the crate!!

your puppy should be in a crate and a puppy safe toy left with the pup. the crate will keep your pup safe while you're not there to watch it. make sure you're not leaving the pup alone too long during the day. general rule is a pup can hold it's urine for 1 hour per month of age, plus an hour, but no more than 6-7 hours. make sure you exercise the pup enough. if exercised properly the pup won't need to be entertained it will rest while you're gone. good luck.
good crate training site, that explains the proper use and why to use a crate.

If you can swing it financially, consider putting him into doggie daycare once or twice a week. I had to start doing that with my puppy, as he needed to be crated during the day (not old enough to stay out with my older dog). He sleeps for the following 24 hours after a day at daycare, which really helps. Just make sure you check the place out first, specifically asking about emergency care and sanitation procedures. The first place I took my dog, he came home with giardia.

How do you feel about cats? Kittens make perfect companions for puppies. Or you could get a 2nd puppy, but then they are all the more likely to get in trouble and/or become destructive. Leave the radio or tv on as well.

give him a kong with meat and cheese stuffed in it and a big raw beef marrow bone (buy loads and freeze them) and decent array of quality toys and a few soft ones he can snuggle to. Crate train him to keep him safe. Leave soft radio on - no animal noises, just classic radio or something gentle. This is only OK for 4 hours or so - never leave him all day and if you have to it is not fair. You will need to get in a sitter, or another home! Maybe you can come home lunch time or work shorter hours

There are several toys on the market now that are designed for their entertainment. Some are balls with holes that you stuff food into, so that when they roll the ball, pieces fall out. There are also chew toys, or you can get a Kong and stuff it with peanut butter and pieces of food.

Hopefully she is in a crate to keep her safe! Next you can put goodies inside of a Kong or a long bone. Fill it with peanut butter (w/o sugar/salt...buy this at a health food store) or cheese whiz then push those little treats into the bone. This will keep your pet entertained while you are away. l

I use crate training when i'm @ work, but I do put a rawhide bone in the crate - for him to chew on. I like the idea of leaving a TV or radio on for him; he's just 10 weeks old.
