me and my partner are both profoundly deaf, and we have a 16month old son who is hearing. we cope very well looking after our son and he is a very happy child.
however there is not much support for us...there are lots of support groups for hearing parents with deaf children but cant seem to find any for deaf parents with hearing children.
i really want the best for my child and dont want him missing out on anything, although being deaf its hard to know exactly what i can do for him. i have bought him music cds so he can listen as he loves music and we have a dance with him even though we cant hear it lol, we also take him to playgroups etc... to help his speech and mix with other hearing children. he is growing and developing well.
i would love to hear from other parents/people in the same situation and would love some tips and advice about what you have done or ay support groups you may know of (i live in south wales UK)

thanks!

That is a very good question, I am from the US,Both of my parents are deaf and I am the oldest of 4 children, and we all have the ability to hear. The way my parents found help to impove my social and speech skills were through a program call VISID. They paid for speech therapist and a private teacher to come to our house and teach my younger sister and I... They were really helpful. thanks to them. Try to see if there are any programs in the UK like this one

These are some products that can help you and your child. I grew up with a partially deaf mother and I would be joked by the kids at school, because of the way I talked when I spoke to my mother. It was worth it though, she was the only one who stuck by me and I was the same for her. She got a cochlear implant and she kind of can hear better, and is planning on getting her other ear done. Plus use baby sign language to communicate to your child without talking.

my husband and i are deaf and have a 3 year old hearing son. there is just not very much for CODA's in this world right now. the best thing you can do is connect to other deaf mommies in your area, establish a group and have everyone bring information to share. contact agencies that could offer you support. i wish there was an internation CODA agency for our kids.

Let the child learn spoken English so he'd be able to communicate with others and won't have problems with getting into a community. You won't have problems communicating - no mother has problems communicating with her child, no matter the language. The child would be perfectly able to learn both English spoken and sign language if he is under age 4-5.

I remember seeing a documentary on the Discovery Channel that addressed this. Perhaps you can search their website and find some sources there.
