i have to admit that i do not want to join the navy because i want to serve the country. i actually dont want to be in a warzone. but i do want to join the navy because i want to conquer my fears, i want to be disciplined, to be pushed to my limits, to be in good physical shape, to be more assertive and outgoing, to help the civilians and the soldiers in any way i can without having to physically fight in a warzone.
i am a female, 5'5 175 lbs, 23 years old and have bachelor's degree in psychology and would like to have a career in healthcare such as nursing. am i fit for the navy? how about airforce? please be honest with your answers but also respond kindly. thank you in advance!

The Navy is a good choice if you don't want to be near combat. I did the same thing, I choose to volunteer for the Submarine force. I figured if they did send me to war I wanted to be as far away from ground combat as possible. And I think a few hundred feet under water was as far as I could get.
If you join the Navy and go Hospital Corpsmen you more than likely won't go anywhere near any combat.
If you are not in at least decent shape basic training will be difficult, but not impossible. You will be doing push ups, sit ups, and running just about every day of the week, so you will quickly get into shape if you are not.

Being fit for service is a physical abd emotional thing...You dont seem to be there yet. It is not a place for you to conquer your fears. That is why they have things like mountain climbing and such. To want to join and be in a warzone, is selfish and somewhat cowardly.
Besides, you are overweight, that puts you out of the physical portion too. Being in the Navy, and being in Healthcare, is a good way to be assigned to the Marines in a front line, area.
Maybe you should just get married and have babies

Just because you have a degree does make you eligible to be an officer. It all depends on what your degree is in. So many people have the misconception that if you have a 4 year degree that makes you an officer is far from what is reality! It goes on a needs basis. If your degree is in elementary education, sports medicine, massage therapy, business, all these degrees are not needed in the military. People just do not know the real answer. So many people want to act like they know what they are talking about but most are clueless. Good luck and I would recommend dropping about 20lbs if you are serious!

First of all you are talking about joining the military so the reality is you may have to go to combat zones. 2nd you are looking to go in the medical field so the war zone now becomes more of a possibility, Other than those two concerns you sound like a great fit. I did 101/2 years in the navy and think it was great for all the same reasons you want to enlist. BTW thick skin required.

Actually, the height/weight requirements for a female at 65" is 160 lbs. However, if you are under 22% bodyfat, you would be all right. You would be qualified for an officer program with your bachelor's degree. Just call your local recruiter, and make sure that they forward your information up to the officer recruiters, or go to Navy.com and look up officer recruiter phone number by entering in your zip code. p.s. I am a Navy recruiter.

Why don't you talk to a recruiter? Tell a recruiter what you want to do. DON'T SIGN ANYTHING UNLESS YOU HAVE READ IT. Now, a recruiter wants to get people in as "enlistees", not necessarily in as "officers", so, if you want to get in as an "officer", you have to really make a point to ask about it.
Good luck!
P.S. the navy website will send you an info packet if you call their 800 number. It will also get you in touch with the local recruiter.

Any of the branches would probably love to have you. With your degree you could become an Officer. Talk to your local recruiter, and good luck.

You sound as though you fit the Navy's yard-stick requirement for female applicants.
