The warm winter is caused by an El Nino this year, not global warming. Actually the temperature of the earth has increased less than 7/10 of 1 degree (C) from 1880 to 2005. That is an increase of about 1 degree (F) in 125 years. You may choose to believe that is global warming or you may not. Source: http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/2005/2005cal_fig1.gif There are numerous charts all over the internet showing the same. Some say that 1 degree is enough to impact the global climate, others say it's not. Most proponents of global warming think the earth's temperature has risen much more than that and don't even know that it has only risen by 1 degree. But the charts do not lie as do the proponents on both sides of this issue. The average temperature in the Antarctica is 109 degrees below zero. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctica#Climate It seems to me 108 below (one degree warmer) is still pretty cold and not enough to melt anything. But there are those that say it will.
Back in the '70s all the hype was about global COOLING and another ice age was coming. I remember that they blamed pollution for that too. They said that all the pollution was darkening the skies and not as much sun was coming through so the earth was cooling off. It took many years to discover that they were mistaken and it was all just hype. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_cooling So when someone says, "the sky is falling" don't believe everything you hear on either side of the issue. There are Spin Doctors galore out there.
Most of the time people will form an opinion and not really be informed about the subject with which they become so opinionated about. So it's best that you not form your opinions from other's opinions, (as in this forum) but on the facts presented. (Many do not provide any proof or links to prove their point, just their opinion.) With that said we do have a responsibility to do our part by doing whatever is within your power to keep our planet alive and well.
I hope that helps...

You are right - global warming is partially to blame for our milder winters AND warmer summers, but the wild temperature swings we've seen this winter that have caused deviations of 40 or more degrees on a daily basis in many parts of the country aren't a result of global warming, they are a result of the current El Nino pattern in the south pacific. It's complicated, but this concentration of warm water offshore causes the jet stream to push northward, allowing warmer air from the south to infiltrate otherwise cold northern states.
Global warming is only responsible thus far for a temperature change of a few degrees from normal (which is more than enough to be disastrous over an extended period of time.) But what we've been seeing lately isn't global warming.

ok so we are meant to be terrified of warming yet then whilst it would not heat for 10 years we can't element out oddly chilly parts. yet whilst some place has a a hundred and ten temp in summer season it is an emergency. Then whilst it is oddly chilly interior the northern hemisphere for an entire iciness it is purely an oddity in a warm worldwide ?? yet wait Mars had a warming sort the comparable time we did. Did the Martians use too lots carbon based gas too on the comparable time. Wait there is not any sign of SUVs on mars or Coal potential flowers or any non-organic interest yet nonetheless they heat in a man made way too (or martian in case you will). Wait ought to it fairly is the solar doing it nope there is not any political income there. It must be the un-washed lots. So no THE PLANET would not HAVE A FEVER possibly the solar does call the sol-record we've or had interior the ninety's a sol fever. help record my third rock thinks it is killing itself and all it is is indigestion I belched out a flare and that they freaked out what do I do.

Well, your winter didn't go up by 30-40 degrees, did it? When they talk about global warming, they're talking about a rise in average global temperatures of a few degrees; that's all it takes to affect huge changes. It doesn't just mean an overall warmer climate everywhere, but rather more solar energy being trapped and converted to potential and kinetic energy in the form of weather systems -- you're pumping more heat energy into the oceans, which can create more frequent and energetic storms, and a rise of a few degrees in average temperatures can result in gradual melting of polar and glacial ice. Changing the balance of temperature fluctuations can also change ocean currents, which means that ecologically rich areas that enjoyed upwellings of nutrients from the deep ocean might find themselves suddenly starved as the currents change direction or stop altogether. As the weather fluctuations become more severe, you might not get a milder winter, but actually a more severe one -- the annual average temperature might go up by a couple of degrees, but it can still mean that your winters are bitterly cold and your summers miserably hot -- that average temperature is somewhere in the middle.
