I'm trying to make quesadillas but I just realized I've run out of butter which I need to put on the outside of the tortilla so it browns while it's cooking.

You don't need to butter your tortilla. The way Mexicans make them is without butter. But if you must you can brush a little bit of oil on the tortilla.

I make quesadillas all the time and have never used butter.

Don't bother brushing the tortillas at all. It adds fat and isn't necessary.

I bake quesadillas in the oven on a baking tray at about 400F for about six minutes. You don't need any oil/butter for this!

do you have olive oil? that might work but I've never tried it...or a nonstick cooking spray might do it too. the quesadilla will brown without using anything too, just make sure it is a nonstick pan.

you can mix a bit of olive oil, salt, and a tad bit of sugar. the sugar will cook and caramelize while the salt gets rid of the flavor, as does the olive oil of the salt. besides binding them together. hope they come out good!!!
