What is a punishment in a state of Texas for giving police false information or assisting in harboring a criminal?

Oh that is a very good question -

Was he wanted on a paper warrant or had this person just committed a criminal act.

Big difference in the time you get in jail.

If it is a warrant then you face just a false information charge and harboring a fugitive.

If this person just committed the crime - you can face the same criminal charge as an accomplice after the fact

37.08. False report to peace officer or law enforcement employee.

(a) A person commits an offense if, with intent to deceive, he knowingly makes a false statement that is material to a criminal investigation and makes the statement to:

(1) a peace officer conducting the investigation; or

(2) any employee of a law enforcement agency that is authorized by the agency to conduct the investigation and that the actor knows is conducting the investigation.

(b) In this section, "law enforcement agency" has the meaning assigned by Article 59.01, Code of Criminal Procedure.

(c) An offense under this section is a Class B misdemeanor.

False info can get a range of penalties from a fine, to county jail, to a stretch in state prison. It depends on the state and the facts of the particular case. Not a real smart thing to do.

In Texas?That is the place to never commit a crime.You may get 15 years and that is if you are lucky.Call a Lawyer fast.

Well is Mississippi you get off easy. My cousin have given the Police false info several times. When she get's pulled over she gives her sister's info b/c she know her sister doesn't get in trouble. The my other cousin has to go to court to prove it wasn't her.
I don't even think she's ever had to pay a fine for given false info.

Here in Missouri, that would fall under several different crimes, which could get you up to two years in jail, plus a hefty fine.
