The Fairlane would be very simular to the Mustang, same drivetrain, same unibody and rust problems, with the Thunderbolt clones being very popular. the Galaxie has a frame and less problems, wide range of engines :)

Wow, you could open up a can of worms here. The main factor is CASH! How much do you want to spend? You can buy cheap and restore it yourself or you can buy a car that already has been restored for you. The condition of the car depends on a lot of factors. What part of the country the car was driven in could make a big difference. In snow country the cars may have more rust damage due to salt on the roads. The southern/warmer/dry states tend to be more gentle on the car bodies. The engine could be a major problem depending on how hard it was worked. Also a lot of damage can be covered up by body work and engine/transmission noise covered up by additives. Research and patience and a sharp eye should help you decide which will suit you the best. I have restored a 1965 MG Midget and 1966 MGBGT. Each car took between 2 1/2 to three years to restore. I bought cheap and spent a lot of money doing it but when finished I knew what I had. Plus, it was a real experience and taught me a lot. Good Luck, Hope you find a 64 Fairlane that was driven by a little old lady. (to and from the dragstrip. LOL )

Personally, I like the Old Galaxie but I really hate the looks of a '64 Fairlane. The market for Galaxies has been going up but the market for a Fairlane would be spotty at best. The Fairlanes were not as well built as the full-size Fords. Parts for the Galaxie would be easier to find.

They are both great classic fords. They are just like any other 60's model car in the fact that they could be worn out or rusted out. The biggest thing to look for is a car that you like just as it is. In other words , dont get a four door if you really want a two door. Dont get the small block if you want a big block , etc.
