No, an ex is an ex for a GOOD reason. Especially when you are trying to move forward in your life, why keep in contact with someone who has hurt you?
My experience has been that every time I have spoken with an ex they want to reminicse on the "old times." Now why would I want to be reminded of my old relationships when I am in a much better, happier and more healthier one now?
Remember, living in the past will never bring you happiness in the future.
Good luck!
=)

Its best for you to move on and not keep in contact with him anymore. He really hurt you and by you keeping in contact with him you are only telling him that you are trying to get over the hurt he caused you. You are probably still feeling gullable and very hurt and when a man knows what your soft spots are they usually take every chance they can to take advantage of that. Keeping in contact with him is only telling him that you have accepted what he did to you and no matter what he continues to do to you you will always forgive him and allow him to stay in your life.

It can be both good or bad, depending on what kind of contact you keep with them. It is always good to keep a friendship with him, because you two know eachother very well and it shows you still care about him enough to keep him in your life. On the other hand if you keep in contact with him, and one of you wants more than friendship, it may be very hard to work out and cause problems. I feel you should keep in contact with him, but the type of contact you keep depends on you and your heart.

If you have no need to be in touch with him do yourself a favor and cut off communications or you are leaving yourself open to a world of hurt. You need to leave him far behind just like any other garbage - if he hurt you and you keep in touch you are only giving him permission to keep doing it. Just say no to a further relationship of any kind with this guy. Good Luck!

Drop this loser like a hot potato. Why would you want to keep in contact with someone who really hurt you and broke your heart? He doesn't deserve you and you deserve better treatment.

If he wants to stay in contact, it's fine. Don't get too close but let him call every other month if he really wants to. Just make sure he doesn't come around to breaking your heart again.
I've been through a relationship where this guy completely ditched me for another girl and I haven't spoken to him since. (this was three years ago)

Now that depends on the reason you broke up. I broke up with my husband and we keep in contact. Infact, he and my current husband are still best of friends.

I always thought so but from experience it isn't the best thing for YOU. it'll make it hard to move on and when you do move on it will cause trobles in your relationship with the new bf, best to just cut the strings now before it gets even harder too
