1. Watch your caloric intake.
2. Range of motion - keep your joints and ligaments loose
3. You can do ankle pumps, Quad set (pushing your knee into the bed) glut sets (squeezing your butt together and releasing)
4. Get some TheraBand with very low resistance and do upper body resistance exercise.

* I did this with ICU bed ridden patients for 8 years.

I too was put on bedrest at 7 months into my pregnancy. It was partial bedrest, however. I could still work during the day, but had to come home after and lay down for the remainder of the evening. Prior to my pregnancy, I competed in marathons, triathlons, 100 mile bike rides-you name it! So, I feel your pain!

I still incorporated some exercise that was very moderate. While I laid on the couch, I would do hand weights and stomach work by breathing techniques. I know it probably was not the best thing, but I also did light walking in the morning. I just kept it really easy and non stressful to my joints. I bought some great work out DVD's like Yoga and Pilates and tried to do some of those mildly, verses what the Instructor showed. It helped that I had also been a Certified Personal Trainer for many years so I knew a lot about proper body alignment and muscle technique.

Anyway, I ended up gaining 50 pounds! I watched what I ate and did these things, but still gained. I am 5'11 and normally a size 4-6. The good news is that I lost 30 pounds of it within 2.5 weeks of my son's birth. Much of it was water and excess fluid.

My son is now 19 months old. Even having had a C-section, I was back to my pre-pregnancy size within 7 months. Now, I weigh even a few pounds less than when I got pregnant.

So, there is hope. Even if you gain the weight. If you were in good shape to begin with and you don't let yourself totally let go while you are pregnant, you will get right back to your pre-baby size soon enough.

On a final note, I have asked myself if I would mind never having lost the weight after having my son? I can honestly tell you that even though it would have bothered me, I would not have given up the chance to have my son for extra weight gain. He is so worth it. I am thankful to have been disciplined enough to get the weight off, but even had it not, I'd just get used to it for having had the chance to have him.

Good luck. Stay positive.

If you're constantly iin bed rest I'm sure you aren't as hungry as you are when you're constantly moving around. Just don't eat...Drink tons of hot beverages and chew on small, low-calorie "snacks". Have fruit slices, small bits of breakfast cereal...that type of thing. Good luck, I hope you feel better!

what are you eating?

i guess if you've been a gym nut and all of a sudden not, your body will react to that as it is.

can you move your limbs? there are exercises you can do in bed with your arms and legs atleast. use your imagination.

i would advise you to cut down on your calorie intact as much as possible while you there. good luck.

You need to occupy your time!!! If you must lay in bed and restrict your movements, you must find something to occupy you mind!!!
Puzzles, crosswords, wordsearches, tv, anything to keep your mind busy, otherwise you get bored and then you have a tendency to eat and get depressed because you are so used to being active!!!

That sucks! I hope you are pregnant so you will have something to show for it.

Since your routine has changed (no working out), change your eating. Stick to raw vegetables for the majority of your meals (check with your MD if you are pregnant).

You are going to have to be much more strict with your diet. I would drink water when you feel yourself getting too hungry and use that to cut back on your snacking or meals

Watch what you eat. Calories are what makes someone gain weight.
