I do many exercise classes - body pump, combat, legs bums and tums. You name it and I have probably done it at some time. I have found that the same old people always take their usual placesin the class, usually completely hogging the mirrors. if you try and go in 'their' space you will be gradually barged out of the way, ever so discreetly during the class. Has anyone else noticed this and how do you put a stop to it?
In some classes I go to people even reserve places for their friends at the front, making it a whole no-go area for everyone else.

after class one day inform the instructor that you aren't getting some of the moves and ask her if you can come to the front next time to make sure you're using proper form--make sure the "front girls/guys" hear you ask the instructor. make sure to get to class early to secure the spot.

I don't take excercise classes but i used to go line dancing and everyone had a place that they used to stand every week it's just force of habit that the same people stand in the same places all the time you can't really put a stop to it the best you can do is just get to the class extra early and take the space you want all the others can do is point it out to you that your in their space or just discreetly push you out the way

When I used to go to bums legs and tums even though I didn't need to loose weight I got myself right at the back I did notice there were those who had all the right clothing get themselves up the front as you said and saved places

Try to get there early so you are in first. Or talk to the person giving the class. If a person has a valid reason for always being in front (like being too short to see over other people), that's one thing, but just being selfish is another.

Yeah I seen this to,What you have to do is hobble them,You will need a box of large blue tacks and a large magnet [for picking up tacks after] Spread the tacks liberally around the front area before the front people come in then watch as they fall off Hobbled

LOL its like this at my gymnastics squad sessions =D

everyone wants to be on the side of the circle where the mirror is for warm up, and in the winter, everyone wants to be where the heaters are, and in the summer, obv beneath the ceiling fans... I have still not found a way of getting where you want to be, other than being first in the room!

You are rite, it happens all ove tthe place. They think they have a right to be there, mayb the longest class users, all new comers to the back. Or they think they are that good, they deserve a place at the front. just get into the front with a freind and push them to one side or back a row. Let them know they dont own the place.

Conceptually, if you move up to the front then you'll be the object of your own reproach. (I really don't mean to sound sarcastic). I think we have all had this happen to us, and I just try to think about the exercise rather than the ego trip. Remember, it never hurts to talk to someone.

You want to get there earlier or gain the confidence to ask if they would mind you standing at the front this time.
