My boyfriend got me the cutest puppy for Chrismtas. She is nine weeks old. We are trying to train her to go on the pads and she is starting to get that she is supposed to poop on paper (although it doesn't matter what paper) but she really doens't get that we want he to pee on the paper also. Anybody have any good tricks?

We are house training our puppy on pads because we live in New York City and "outside" isn't always an option. It's not my ideal way either but I would really like answers from people who can understand why this is really our only option. Also, I'm gone all day and so is my boyfriend for two or three days a week. Pads really are our only option. For those who have done this please help. If it helps she is a chiuahua.

All you are doing is training your dog to go to the bathroom in your house!!! YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER USE PEE PADS!!!
All you have to do is take your puppy outside every 20 mins. Set a timer and every time you hear it go off, ask the puppy want to go potty? Take it outside and when it goes, praise it, go overboard telling it how good it is and even give it a treat. If you just spend a few days doing this, your puppy will get the idea in no time! Always take it outside after it eats or drinks anything. If it starts having an accident in the house just say no, pick it up and run it outside. Tell it what a good puppy it is. At this age, it can't hold it very long, but it will be able to hold it longer and longer as it gets older. If you talk to your dog like you would a person, it will learn to understand lots of what you say.

First off remember you have a dog and a dog should go OUTSIDE to the bathroom. If you train her on pads or paper any pad or paper will be fair game.......forever!!! Purchase a crate if you don't already have one. The crate should be just big enough for her to turn around in. Dogs will not soil there sleeping area. Leave the pup in the crate when you are not able to keep your eye on her. Immediately upon taking her out (let her walk on her own, always go out the same door to the same spot) take her to the spot and wait till she does her busness. Add a word to the activity such as; pee, go now, field.... what ever word you would choose and always use that word. After she is done give her lots of praise and a treat. NOW its play time........play with your pup and when you are done and no longer can watch her put her back in the crate. She should spend her time in the crate unless you are watching. She can have toys in the crate. Next, purchase a bell and attatach it to the door that you always go out. The bell should be attatched to a rope/string that she can reach with her nose. Each time you go outside with her ring the bell. Within a week, she will ring the bell on her own and that is your Q to go out!! As a trainer I have never had this method fail. Crates are great! They keep pups safe when you can not watch or are not home. And the bell, well... it works great too! The only downfall with the bell is that dogs are smart and she will soon ring it just to go OUTSIDE!!!

why do you want her to pee on paper? i would throw away the pads, and stop paper training. this only confuses a dog about going inside. you need to be taking the pup outside to potty. you don't want a few years down the road to go pick up the sports section only to find a present on it from your full grown dog. get a crate ad crate train the pup. this is the most effective way of training a pup. the best advice i can give it to be consistant and patient. here's a great crate training site that not only explains how to crate train but why a crate is a good method. good luck.

The best way is to take her outside every hour and praise her greatly when she wees or poops. Use those words and she will remeber what she is supposed to do. House Training is about encouragement and her trusting you, so never shout or smack even when she's made a dreadful mess, you will end up with her not wanting to come to you.

These questions are asked SO much it can be annoying depending on my mood. I'm happy now, so you're lucky. :P
I reccomend just regular books!
The ASPCA Complete Guide to Dogs is GREAT for that. It has a lot more than just on how to potty train dogs, it also says even more stuff. I absolutely adore it. I read it as a bedtime book it's so great.
You can also just put this question in the "search for questions" box. You might find more stuff!

there's no such concern as an in basic terms about housebroken canines. both he's or he's not. declaring a canines is in basic terms about housebroke is like declaring your spouse is in basic terms about pregnant. even as a canines is housebroken he by no ability makes use of the living house for his rest room. a lot of human beings do no longer understand why their canines does no longer understand what to do even as taken outdoors. in basic terms turning a canines out interior the lower back backyard by technique of himself some cases an afternoon isn't a thanks to living house prepare a canines. only taking him outdoors also does no longer advise he's conscious of what he's being taken outdoors for. the biggest project between the canines and the owner is that the canines might want to like to delight yet he would not understand the thanks to communicate with you. burglary in concept is truly common. that is searching a attitude to combating the puppy from doing his responsibilities interior the living house and in common words giving him the chance to do it outdoors. It also signifies that the canines learns to communicate with you about going even as instructed to bypass and about letting you recognize even as he has to bypass outdoors. A canines is a creature of habit and considering he learns by technique of affiliation, if his preparation is consistent he will straight away learn there's no different position to alleviate himself except outside. We take income of an truly organic instinct of the canines - his want to save his napping quarters clean - i.e. no longer to clutter his mattress. we grant a canines a den interior the variety of a canines crate. This turns into his mattress that he can't get out of. If the canines crate is the right length he gained't soil it. doggies may no longer initially like it (some will scream like a raped ape) yet interior some days they are going to settle for it and not using a project. canines are and continuously were den and %. animals. canines clearly and instinctively choose the shelter of a den. interior the wild the more youthful are raised in dens. They spend an staggering component of their first 3 hundred and sixty 5 days very on the facet of their den. In houses, canines in many cases choose their den. they receives below a table, in the back of a settee, in a closet, and so on.

Ok first of all if the puppy "does it's duty" where it's not supost to rub his or her nose in it I know it sound mean but that's what your supposted to do if she or he looks like it's gotta go put the puppy on the paper sooner or later the puppy will get the right idea. That how we train our puppy
