Okay, I have a Yorki-Poo and I don't know whether she has an ear infection or ear mites. She scratches her ears and shakes her heard, but I don't see any bugs (not sure if you can see mites) but I don't see any bad discharge from her ears either.
I got some ear mite treatment today, anyone else had this problem? I'm going to try the mite treatment for a few days and if it doesn't get any better I'm taking her to the vet.

Poodles seem to have a predisposition to ear infections. Head shaking is a classis symptom. A trip to the vet is in order. I'm sure it probably is uncomfortable for her and might even be painful. He'll give you the right treatment for it.

The best solution is to take your dog to the vet. There can be several problems ear mites, ear infection, or even a yeast infection.
The vet will properly diagnose the problem and give proper medication as well as intstructions on how to give the medication.
You should not guess and give medication that was not directed by the vet because you can end up doing something wrong or guessing wrong and in turn it can damaged the dogs ear as well as make your dog deaf. Good Luck.

Do NOT give ear mite treatment. Ear mites are rare in dogs, and infection is much more likely. The miticide will irritate and complicate an infection (and just irritate her ear in general.) If you want to try something otc in her ears there are a number of ear cleaning solutions.
Try something with a chlorohexamine solution; or other products labled as ear cleaner but NOT miticide or ear mite treatment.
If the problems get worse, or you see a discharge or she cries or yelps in pain when you rub her ears, get her to a vet.

I HAVE TWO CATS BOTH HAD MITES AT ONE TIME. PERSONALLY I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD GO TO THE VET BEFORE TRYING ANYTHING ON YOUR OWN, THERE COULD BE PROBLEMS IN THE INNER EAR OR OUTER EAR. THE INNER EAR IS MORE SERIOUS THEREFORE YOU COULD BE MAKING PROBLEM WORSE. I TOOK MY CATS IN LAST WEEK FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN BUT, TURNS OUT ONE HAD MITES AND ONE HAD EAR YEAST INFECTION SO YOU NEVER KNOW . BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY.

if there is an odor she may have an infection.you don't always see a discharge. if the itching has been going on for some time i would take her to the vet now. i've been told that poodles are notorious for ear infections but i don't know for sure. better to be safe and have it checked.

Look inside of her ears. If there is a lot of black stuff in there, she has ear mites. You can't see the bugs, you can just see what they leave behind

the only way to tell for sure is to get the proper sample, and look under a microscope. something a vet can do in just a few minutes.
take your dog to the vet as soon as you can, delaying it will only compound your problem and take longer to heal and cost more in medication.

Just take her to the vet now - If you let an infection go, it could lead to the dog going deaf!
