You have a couple of things going on here....first kinda figure out when he poops. My dog poops right after he eats for the 2nd time of the day, so I know he's got to go out--see if there's some sort of pattern for his pooping. And then also....take a piece of inside poop and place it out in the yard where you want him to poop.
So once you know when the poopage time is, you take him out, let him sniff his own poop ("hey how did this get out here") and when he DOES do the deed outside, PRAISE HIM and give him a treat!

Take some of the fresh poop and put it by the door where it will be going out. For the next week put the poop right outside the door on a napkin of course. If this doesn't work try to get some No doggie in your local pet store and spray where he has gone. Also try Natures cure I believe it is called to wash the area where he has been going. If all of the above fails crate him when you are not at home and take out immediately when you get home.

Use puppy pads inside in the crate or breezeway to train. Take some poop outside where you want the pup to go.
Clean and deodorize where the pup has gone inside (they go back to the smell).
Watch for the signs that the pup needs to go out and take it before you think it has to go. Be patient and be kind to the pup.
Good luck

You should probably walk him until he poops outdoors & then praise him like crazy give him treats etc. If you can take him for 3 walks a day, that should take care of the pooping as he should do it each time he's out.

If you are in a cold climate he may not like the cold on his feet & that's why he waits to get inside. If he doesn't like going for walks all of a sudden that may be the reason & you should get him boots.

all you can do is keep it up. stay outside with the pup, and do not give attention until he goes potty. if when you get back inside make sure the pup is where you can directly observe him. when you see him start to poop scoop him up and take him back outside and tell him go potty. you will need to wait sometimes it can take 30-45 mins. when he does go outside praise the heck out of him. he'll learn he's a pup, you have to be consistant and patient. good luck.
