He would be a Seaman Apprentice. An Electronics Tech. is a seaman rating, as opposed to an Electrician's Mate, which is an engineering rate. There are also Airman ratings and Constructionman ratings.

You would call him "Seaman Jones" (or whatever his last name is). "Sir" is for officers, not enlisted (as designated by the "E" in E-2). The bottom ranks go Seaman Recruit (E-1), Seaman Apprentice (E-2), and Seaman (E-3). After that, you get into the Petty Officer ranks, starting at Petty Officer 3rd Class (E-4), Petty Officer 2nd Class (E-5) and Petty Officer 1st Class (E-6). Then, the Chief Petty Officers: Chief Petty Officer (E-7), Senior Chief Petty Officer (E-8), and Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9).

His rank is called Seaman Apprentice. He's addressed simply as "Seaman".

You can play on the word apprentice in his title because of the popular Donald Trump/Mark Burnett show "The Apprentice" on NBC. You can nicknamed him your Apprentice or your Favorite Apprentice.

Incidentally, you may hang on to the attached link so you'll be familiar with the various Navy ranks as your boyfriend progresses up his career ladder in the service of his choice.
