As an immigrant ,For how long can I leave Canada before getting the canadian passport ,many thanks .

you have to be a citizen first

To become a Canadian citizen, you must:

* be 18 years of age or older;
* be a permanent resident of Canada;
* have lived in Canada for at least three of the four years before applying;
* be able to communicate in either English or French;
* know about Canada; and
* know about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

At least 6 years from when you became a landed immigrant
- 4 years being in Canada as a permanent resident before you can apply for citizenship.
- 2 years to process citizenship application (You have to be a citizen to apply for a Canadian passport.)
