I have been diagnosed by my family doctor as having two bulging disks. I have a lot of pain with them. I am going to a back sugeon tomorrow. I would really like to have some questions ready. I have already tried physical therapy twice and I currently take an anti inflamatory med and Darvocet as needed. Of course I will ask what are my non surgical options. I am only 26 years old and I have had this pain for years so surgery is not completely out of the question. I've heard there is not much they can do besides surgery and therapy.
Any ideas would be helpful! Thanks!!

I would like to know what types of exercises you were doing...this type of problem for someone your age should be readily resolved with PT (if the right kind is done) and if you are doing the exercises as appropriate.

Other than that, other non-surgical options include epidural steroid injections, spinal decompression systems, acupuncture, etc.

But really, I'd like to know what exercises you were doing...

My recommendation is to avoid surgery unless: you cannot function or walk and you are unable to control your bowel and bladder. Most patients undergoing surgery for pain end up with the same amount or even worse pain after the operation.
There is so much non-operatively that can be done today to get you some relief. Do not jump into surgery but ask for a referral to a pain specialists. Most interventional spine specialists are members of ISIS (spinalinjection.com).
Very common statement I hear: "If had known that I will end up like this, I would have never gone for surgery in the first place".
