Providing there was no airbags or inflatable slides on show i would put it down to pilot error. If however the pilot had skid marks on his runway, i would report him immediately for gross negligence.

if you are going to report this, you need some very specific information: time; description of the aircraft; direction of the aircraft. Since you are reporting something your son saw, What you are contemplating reporting is hear-say, that is not something you personally witnessed. I'd just be prepared to gather this information if it happens again. The authorities will also want to know if you live close to an airport, of a farm (could have been a crop duster). If you can't answer all these questions, don't embarrass yourself by opening up this can of worms. Check with your neighbours, maybe someone else has all the information.

NO. What kind of plane was it? VariEze's have fixed main's and only a retractable nose wheel. It could also be that the retraction/extension sequence doesn't retract the mains simultaneously with the nose.
If the gear is stuck, then the crew shouldn't see "three green" when reaching that point on the approach/landing checklist.
Finally, who you gonna call, and what are you going to say? Without the registration number, good luck.

91.119 Minimum safe altitudes: General.
top

Except when necessary for takeoff or landing, no person may operate an aircraft below the following altitudes:

(a) Anywhere. An altitude allowing, if a power unit fails, an emergency landing without undue hazard to persons or property on the surface.

(b) Over congested areas. Over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement, or over any open air assembly of persons, an altitude of 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle within a horizontal radius of 2,000 feet of the aircraft.

(c) Over other than congested areas. An altitude of 500 feet above the surface, except over open water or sparsely populated areas. In those cases, the aircraft may not be operated closer than 500 feet to any person, vessel, vehicle, or structure.

Was he lower than 1000'? can you judge 1000' ACCURATELY?
If you did no get the tail number , who are you going to report?
I assure you ,you were in no danger, even if he lost power, he has a minute or two before he would be at ground level. enough time to maneuver as to not endanger you or your son.
There have been accidents, from pilots "buzzing" but it is VERY rare. Just be glad you live in a country where we are FREE to fly!

You have given no information with regard to where this has happened, how old your son is, where the engines running, if a small aircraft, were the engines running if it was a Jumbo jet, apparantly you heard nothing, therefore how on earth can anyone give an informed opinion?

What are you going to tell the authorities? do you have the plane's identification serial number? How low was low, is your estimation accurate and was the pilot flying a low level nav X?

Maybe he was taking pictures. Maybe he was a crop duster. If you cannot read the numbers without binoculars, the airplane was legally far enough from you. Some people have trouble judging distance properly.

Nah I would not call the authorities unless you could make out the pilot and he had a towel on his head.
