This is something that needs to heal....I'm not sure that getting on the tread mill is a good idea or a bad idea...I didn't have a treadmill so I had to walk around. My injury to my sciatica was from a lifting type movement and it hurt like crazy for about 4 months. I did feel better when I moved around, but I was once told that it may have prevented the healing process by moving around so much...personally I think it may have improved things...but that is just from my own experience.

Listen to what your body tells you and go by that...the Doctor's are not always right! :)

Is Walking Good For Sciatica

Sciatic pain is a constant pain, at times you might get some relieve with the exercises and stretches that the PT gives you. Its been 3 weeks you should be able to walk on the treadmill but low impact nothing of running, slowly. You want to make sure you stretch those muscles of the back, hips and thighs before anything. Make sure you put some warm compresses at the hip area (buttocks) to relax the mucle, before stretching.
Heres a site where you can find those stretches according to the type of injury to sciatica you have.
Hope you feel better ^i^

Well
Sciatica is a pain that results from irritation of one of sciatic nerves. This is a lower back pain that goes down to hip and then to both legs extending to feet and toes in some cases. Sciatica nerve is the largest nerve in our body. Running down the spine through the hip, sciatic nerve goes down to knee and ankle. Any damage or pressure on this nerve results in debilitating sciatica pain that needs thorough investigation of probable causes on the basis of symptoms to provide relief to the patient on a permanent basis.

G'Day hecate321, yes!..In some instances it can be a chronic problem, how do I know, I am a chronic back pain and sciatica sufferer myself for the past 22yrs. But with medication and a careful life-style it can be controlled, one major thing that will help you is to be careful with your weight and not let yourself put on too much.

I would think if you are overweight exercise would be good. But you should talk to your doc. Maybe a low impact form of exercise might be better. Good Luck!!
