Im honestly not trying to start anything...Im not like that. I am agnostic and I have been starting to wonder why. I guess I don't want to believe in something (referring to God) for one:when I don't see him and second: for someone that has caused my family so much pain and suffering. But it is starting to make me wonder if maybe its a good time in my life to believe in God? I have 2 little kids, a husband that is a firefighter, and Im starting to think that I don't want to be stuck in a box for the rest of my life. I want to think that my family is waiting for me up there...and that after I die, I know that I will be with my husband and children. Such a lonely feeling. I don't know why Im thinking about this so much. Is is wrong for me to believe in Him, when I have been agnostic all my life? Is it wrong to believe in God when I don't like churches...or feel comfortable in churches?

Research various religions and philosophies at your leisure... only YOU can answer your own questions. There ARE answers but you have to hunt them down. It's not our place to tell you how or what to think my friend.

Much respect for you, your family and your firefighter.

I htink it was Augustine who said something like the following: there is an empty space in each heart, in which only God will fit.
Your reasons for not wanting to believe in God are understandable.
1. You can't see Him. Of course, you do believe in many things you have never seen, but you see their results. Although many people claim to understand how a computer works, it makes absolutely no sense to me. But I believe it, because I am using a computer now.
2. God has caused your family so much pain and suffering. I can only imagine what might be behind that comment, and I wince as I read it. There are two possible meanings to the statement that God caused this pain. First, that it was caused by religion, and/or church. That would not be God. Unfortunately, God has been blamed by many things the Church, or religions, have done. The fact that you are not comfortable with churches might indicate that this is your meaning. The other possibility is that you feel that the pain was caused by God Himself. Logically, that would mean you do believe in Him, but can't forgive Him for what He has done.
I would suggest you not look for God in the image of the churches that profess to serve Him. Read the Bible for yourself. Examine the life of Jesus Christ, as He claimed to be the Way, the Truth and the Life. He said "He who has seen me has seen the Father". His claims are so extraordinary, that they need to be investigated. Either He was a madman, an evil liar and manipulator, or He was the Son of God. It would be important to know, wouldn't it?
As far as churches are concerned, have you thought of looking into some kind of church totally different from anything you have experienced? If you do, I would suggest you compare what you are taught with the New Testament, to not let yourself get taken for a ride.
In any case, you can believe in God and not feel comfortable in churches tha tyou know. Just don't lump them all inthe same bunch. There might be something very different out there.

to be an Agnostic is to understand that the existence of the Almighty can be neither proven nor disproven by science. Any intelligent person is an agnostic, but the Almighty doesn't mind, He knows that Science is not an appropriate tool for some inquiry's. Please turn to Scripture. When I did, I found some things I did not like, and many I did not understand, but there were many places where the Scriptures spoke to me, and I could not justify throwing it all out. If you haven't read Scripture, start with the gospel of John. And please, get a basic bible study course to help you find your way, but realize that the course was written by men, and your need is to find the Almighty. He wants to be found. In fact, He promised that if you were truly seeking Him He WOULD BE FOUND BY YOU! He will be where you are looking, even if you are looking in a strange place. I find it easy to love an Almighty like that. He loves me more than I love myself.

It is not wrong to believe in him, even if you have been agnostic all your life. God will give you a fresh start when you accept Him into your heart. And it's not wrong to believe in Him if you don't like churches or don't feel comfortable in them... I don't always feel comfortable in church, and I'm a born again Christian. It's something that you need to learn to like sometimes. Some churches are different than others... you just need to search until you find one that's good for you. And it is NEVER wrong to believe in God. The only thing it CAN be is right.

No, it isn't wrong. And the reason you keep thinking about it is because Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart. It is a wonderful feeling to know that God is with you wherever you go. He is always there to talk to. I will pray for you and God bless.

The only thing that can stop you from going into church is a dead Church. Nothing can seperate you from the love of God while you're on Earth.

Of course it's ok. Everyone is saved at some point.

If you feel left-out at a church, or like you're bing judged as an outsider, they're no church of God.

The first time I came to the Church I go to now, I was immeadiately welcomed, loved.. I felt like I belonged. I got saved that day too... And it was the best day of my life.

Yes, there are many people who love God but are turned off by religion. The good news is, you don't need a religion of any sort to be "connected" with God! God sent His son Jesus as an atonement for our sins! Your relationship with God is determined by your willingness to accept His son as your savior and accept what he did for you at the cross of salvation! It is an open invitation for all who are beaten down by the world! It is not contingent on your belonging to any certain religion! Just start talking to Him and He will direct you if you earnestly seek Him out! The Bible says in Matthew 11:28-30, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden light."
God will give you the answers to all your questions as you seek Him out.
The Bible says in Matthew 7:7-8, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
God bless you!

How has God caused your family pain and suffering?

The Bible is not just simply read. The textual meaning of words long ago are not exactly the same today. Thou shalt not kill should be thou shalt not murder. The Bible makes specification of what is murder and what is killing. But the Hebrew word does translate to the word kill and I was told that there are about 8 meanings for the word kill in Hebrew.

This is where going to a Bible study can help make things clearer. Good luck and God bless.

We all feel depressed at one point in time or another. You know what's hard? Losing 5 family members in 8 months. I'm not over that yet, and that was 6 years ago. Two of the family died within 2 days of each other.
