christians, i'm not meaning to be insulting or anything, but why is your god a jealous got if he is the only one? Why do you say that there is only one god if even the 10 commandments it says nothing about this god being the only one. (and if you don't believe me then check out #1, it says "do not worship any other gods")

Atheist Guy: You are correct, the ten commandments DO tell us to have no other gods before our God. To us that means, he is the supreme God, above any other god. It does not mean we cannot believe in other gods, as long as our GOD is the number one, the big top boss.

I compliment you for seeing this. A lot of Christians do not even take time to contemplate these things. MG

God isn't the only God. That's why he's a "jealous God". We as human beings create other gods. In the Bible, the people Moses was leading in the desert created Gods out of the gold and silver that the people had. They melted it and made a figure to worship. For us, we create gods and worship them. Money is a good example. How many people work 24 / 7 to earn a few extra bucks. What happened to resting on Sunday and taking time out to worship God rather than worshipping that almighty dollar.

He is the only God but We as humans made other Gods other than him when started trying to worship other things that was not God. Your car could be a God to u if thats all you think and talk about. So the scripture is just saying you should only be worshiping me not money or other things that may come up in your life because I am your God!

Simple. You seem to believe to be a "god", something has to be a living, powerful, lightning bolt throwing, being. Anything can be a "god". I know people who worship money, sex, drugs, the Internet, and just about anything else. It rules their lives and control them. For them, it is a "god". And the true God is unwilling to share his rightful position and place with all this other junk. That is what is meant by a "jealous God".

It is true there is no other god. However in another sense, a person's god is what he worships. For instance, your god might be money, or sex, or sports.
Why is He a jealous God? Because He knows it would not be good for HIs followers to worship anything or anyone else but Him.
I am jealous husband. That does not mean I am a suspicious husband. It simply means that as I love my wife, I have no desire to share her. God is that way with those who belong to Him. Hre does not want to share our hearts with any other object of worship. He wants us to have an exclusive love relationship with Him.

He is jealous of us, He wants our whole heart (trust in Him).
"any other gods" is a reference to idols. Back in those days they would melt their gold in an image of a calf (example) and worship it. These were fake gods (made by man). Thats why God said thou shall not worship any other gods or graven images.

If you put money, relationships, addictions, work, yourself as priorities, before worship then you in fact saying those things are more important than your creator. It takes an understanding of how much God loves us to understand how important it is to put him first. God bless.

I saw a program that claimed that the Romans altered the Bible in a few small ways when composing the copy for them, that would sell the religion to the people, creating a Christian, rather than Pagan, majority. Perhaps this was one of them??

The gods Jehovah was referring were idols that were prevalent in the cultures around Jews at that time. many Jews fell into idol worship by intermarrying and trying to assimilate.

God created man in his own image, with free will, he openly wants us to love him like a child loves his father. (which is accurate, because he created us)

Think of it in the same terms - If you had a child whom you loved with your entire being... a legitimate child, and they denied you were their father, and left you and claimed to love someone else, and called them father instead of you (even though it wasnt true) wouldnt you be jealous? Wouldnt you be angry that your child was doing that to you?

Now - What if you had to watch it every single day, it was right in front of your face? Your beautiful child, whom you loved so much and would do anything for... denying you, calling you a liar, and loving a "false" father. That is what the verse means in the bible.
