In order to understand why we need a savior it is important to read Genesis. The New Testament makes a lot more sense if you know that the Savior had been promised because of man's sin resulting in the fall. That is a good starting place and then skip the rest of the Old Testament and go to the Gospel of John.

So many mess up and get bored because they start to read the bible like a normal book.

The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke & John) are the best places to start.

In Mark 1:14&15 Jesus came preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God. I Corinthians 15:1-4 describes how Paul taught the gospel, of first importance as it was given to him and vs 4 tells what that gospel is: how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was burried according to the scriptures and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. vs 5 of that chapter starts telling of witnesses that saw Jesus after the resurection. Isaiah 52:13-15 and chapter 53 tell us about the death burial and resurection of Jesus BEFORE it took place. After that, read Psalms, as they are proven prayers and will help you learn to pray, and read the new testament. As the person starts believing, God will lead them as to what to read.

Ephesians.

Then the gospels. then the rest of the new testament.

Then the old testament.

Use an accurate translation (NASB) and an easy to read one (NLT) to get an idea of what it is talking about.

Stay away from KJV (archaic language, translated according to doctrine) and The Message (paraphrase)
