No. You are considered an alcoholic when you drink nonstop until you pass out.
So you would have to drink the entire half gallon.

I would say so.
Do you ever have:
--Memory loss or inability to account for time?
--Outright blackouts?
--If you stop drinking for any length of time, do you have physical symptoms (cravings for alcohol, shakiness, etc.) or psychological or emotional symptoms (having a hard time concentrating on other things, people, mood change(s), etc.)
--How well do you do your daily routines on alcohol vs. no alcohol.
--Do others notice a real change in your behavior/personality on alcohol or off?
Further, check with your doctor or AA, as there is a list of criteria which is used to determine if a person is an alcoholic or not (the list may differ somewhat between the medical community and AA). Some of the above that I've just listed are on that list.
Be careful about your language and semantics--drinking problem vs. alcoholic. This can trip you up.
Most importantly:
The good thing is that you're asking.
The best thing is that you're willing to say this out loud, look at this, and begin to face it.
The greatest thing is to be honest.

Probably ...
Try not drinking ANY for 3 days. If that is no problem for you, then you may not be an alcoholic. But if you feel physically ill, get the shakes, can't stop thinking about it, can't do it and drink anyway ... then get help immediately.
Even still, that much alcohol long term is not good for your body. Plus it sounds like you are drinking alone (just how you phrased the question) which also isn't good. You need to cut down on the frequency and amount you drink (but I suspect you know that already!)

Don't joke around, alcohol abuse is a killer. i'm lucky i stopped drinking before it took over my life.
YES, drinkin a half gallon every 3 days is bad. stop now before it's too late.
if you think you have an alcohol problem, than you're on the way to recovery. it would be worse if you completely denied your problem, while stomping a gallon down your throat. they have AA in every major city, go to a meeting.

I don't think it's a problem with alcohol so much as a problem with selfishness. If you're going to buy that much liquor, you really should share with your friends---that is, unless you're too drunk to try and find some friends to share with, or if you're drinking to compensate for the fact that you have no friends, or if your drunkenness and selfishness have driven away all of your friends.

Alcoholism is an addiction disease.
You don't have to drink everyday, you don't have to drink to oblivion. All a clinician is going to look for is a pattern of drinking that is unhealthy and that you can't control.
