If you mailed it to yourself and then opened the document via the e-mail, you're only viewing the file that's stored on the temporary folder that's created when you open the attachment through your e-mail.
When you saved it, it saved to that copy in the temporary folder. Now, this directory might have gotten erase when you closed the program, there is a slim chance that the directory is still available.
Unfortunately, the temporary file that's created doesn't have the same name as the actual file. You could try doing a search on your Windows to look for 'specific' words that you used in the document -- to locate that temporary folder that was created.
What you'll need to do in the future is 'right-click' on the item and manually save the file to a directory or folder.

If you did not save this to your My Documents location when you first opened it then it is in you Temporary Internet files.
Don't close word.
Go back to you email and redown load your essay.
Then, go to file > save as (but do not save)> then pull down the directory to see where your first copy was saved...

hi,
tell me first, whether after pressing disk button, did it ask for the name to be given. only after giving name you can save it. otherwise it wont save it. if you have given the name and path( like c:/my documents or desktop) then it should be there in your computer.
try one thing open the word and type anything. then click once again the disk button to save it. now a small dialog box will appear. now see where it is saving the files( it will the previous one unless you had changed it)i.e., desktop or c:/some folder or other drive like wise.
give a reply after trying this
give clear details of the problem, if you can.
hope it will solve your problem.

If you have not deleted the message from your inbox it should still be there. Click the email and then open attachment. (if you saved as an attachment which you should have.) Have you opended it in word at yur work before? if you have then go into file on word at the bottom there will be an arrow click it to expand the list, then the filename you saved it as should be somewhere near the bottom.

Search for the file on the drive, start from root of C.
The file is either in a hidden directory or saved as a temp file

Hi. Try "Start> Search>" and enter either the document name if you know it (it will end with .doc) or search for a word in the document using the lower window. Good luck!

it may be saved in a different location. go to windows explorer and do a search of your hard drive for the filename you saved.
Remember, if you emailed it to yourself, it'll still be saved in your email as an attachment.

if you have it on the diskette then their shouldn't be a problem. if it won't open on either computer use a diffrent computer (libreary computer, friends computer, etc) and put in the diskette, open it, and save it on that computer. e-mail it again to what ever e-mail adress. once you've done that completely erase it from that computer.
luck!
