Assimilation takes time. Ever driven through an Italian neighborhood? Assimilation takes generations. Perhaps a better question is why are so many people so worried that Immigrants WON'T assimilate?

You are making a broad statement that includes Mexicans as a whole but as far as illegals go here is my thought. If they are coming here illegally (the easy way) why would they want to assimilate. They are looking for an easy ride in life and are selfish when it comes to the people of the US. They show not respect for our laws and there for none for our citizens.

Are you asking because you know many Mexicans that don't want to assimilate? I get the exact opposite, Mexicans who wont admit that they ARE Mexican. They think being (sorry for this) white is better, so they act like they're white. Doesn't matter to them that you can see what they really are. I for one was born here, proud of it, but also proud to have some Mexican blood running through me!

This is the 21st centry, not the late 19th-mid20th century. No one is forced to assimilate anymore and those who do that are xenophobic.

Why should they?
When they can hold a protest to do an illegal act and the president you all (republicans) voted into office is bending over backwards to allow it.
Almost everything is bi-lingual now. They have no reason at all to follow US customs. Our schools are forcing youth to learn Spanish. At least when I was in school we had a choice to learn Spanish or french. Many schools are only teaching Spanish.

why do rich americans move to mexico when they don't speak a word of spanish, drive up the cost of real estate, clothing, and furniture, eat at 12pm and 6pm, and critique the food as if they know what it's suppossed to taste like?

If you really hear what they say, you learn that they never will be Americans nor will they ever call themselves Americans. And our government does not help a lot, we hire teachers, cops, welfair works and so on just for them. And yes, the ACLU, needs to be changed, the SCLU might work better.

I wish I saw more of what xcelix sees,.. but I dont.
Like my next door neighbor who had a mexican flag above his garage( until someone stole it lol ), plays mexican music while he works on a car in his garage and speaks spanish almost exclusively.. thats what I mostly see.

ACLU.. pffft.. that organization needs to be redone like our government. I do not know why they do not accept this country. America is awesome and anyone who comes here should thank their lucky stars that they are here. It is far worse in other places. They should also come here legally.
