I am wondering how a Hispanic girl would politely but clearly indicate she's not interested in a hispanic guy? I know that many young people have become americanized, but I'm looking for, as a culture, traditionally, how do men and women interact? I've been told that hispanic males take friendliness as more, often times. If a girl knows that a guy is interested, how does she manage to be friendly/polite, and yet indicate by her actions that she's not interested? I am american with Hispanic acquaintances, and I'm very friendly. I am afraid my general friendliness is being misunderstood. I don't know the guy well enough to speak openly, but I want to stop whatever is starting now, before he gets hurt.

Guys: What makes you think a girl is interested or not?
Girls: How do you interact with males without giving the wrong impression?

(Please only answers from those over the age of 20, I need mature, accurate observations of the culture here!)

Thanks! :-)

I think the best thing to do is to speak clearly about your intentions. Most guys will want to get more than friendship from you, that's a fact I've learned from years and years of frustrated friendship relations with guys...you should just be clear from the start. If the guy wants to be your friend he'll stay around, if not, he'll just go find his love somewhere else...and you'll be better off anyway.

there is not much as politely in Spanish world, hehe I'm just kidding .
just speak up, when he tells you that He loves you or what ever.
Just show that you are not intrested and you like him as a friend but not ready to go further :) just be kind and friendly, He will apreciatte it.
Also I was reading your answers to you, and maybe you think he is intrested on you but if is not the case... Latin guys are very warm even you think they are looking for something, they are not, they just are warm they even like to give hughes when you are a very close friend , but that doesn't mean THEY Love you", they are just been friendly and sweet, don't try to stop him until you are very sure he wants something that you don't want.
then you can talk to him, some latin guys turn onn the same way they turn off, very quick!
Hope you dont repent lately, the sad part after all is you may lose a good friend In the case that He has other intentions that you don't , plus his feelings get hurt :( so get ready.
If his feelings don't get hurt them you will be fine, so keep your friendship

There are so many ignorant questions on this site and it's nice to come across someone who is actually trying to understand cultural differences.I'm not that familiar with Hispanic culture so I don't have any advice for you. I just wanted to say you sound like a real nice person and I appreciate how you're going about handling this situation so there's no misunderstandings. I like Owen_hick's suggestions. Good luck to you!

What culture exactly? Culture changes with country, region of that country, class, education, personality, there are many variables to "culture". Not all North Americans have the same exact culture, if you're from Mississippi you'll have a different culture from someone from Massachusettes. If you're from the backwoods you'll grow up in a different way from someone who grew up in the middle of Manhattan.

In any case I think what you really need to do is forget about cultural cues, and cultural niceties, and be strong and confident enough to say, "I'm not interested in you", it's quite simple really.

I know this sound immature but hey its probably what i would do...talk about other people you like with this guy. I really want to date so and so or am really like this guy at my work. It firmly establishes him as in the friend zone. You could accomplish the same thing by casually mentioning girls you think he should date. Once again it shows that you dont think that you two should date.

Also try to be careful not to send mixed messages. touching (like touching his arm when you talk or what not) often conveys intimacy and can give off the impression that you like him. Keep some physical space between you when you hang out. That might help

I can tell you as a Mexicano, just when u r talkin try to bring the topic tha tu dont wanna be with anyone or that u like someone else, that for u ur thing os not dating friends. Its jus tnot ur thing, say in the conversation tha tu r sometimes too friendly ppl take it the wrong way. Problem solved.

I think it works with any other human species, not just spics...

i'm only 12 but i'm very smart, i go to a school with almost all hispanics (no offence to any1 at all) and hang out with almost all guys, and some times they do take friendlieness the wrong way, so i just act like i have a boyfriend that lives in a close-by city-unless i like one of them. and it works most the time.

there is no such thing as too friendly to me....theses guys just get the wrong impression for some reason....and the best way is to tell them straight forward that your not interested in them, that would be the mature thing to do
