I haven't had a period for the last year and half .. because of pregnancy and then breastfeeding for 10 months. I have quit feeding for 3 weeks now and still no period.. is this still normal? Also I am still leaking every once in awhile.. I thought my milk would have dried up by now? I was going to and probably still will call the doctor but I wondered if this had happened to anyone else? It might just take longer then I had thought??

I think it might just be taking longer than you expected. I breast-fed my son, and it took about a year for me to FULLY quit leaking! As to your period - 18 months is a long time to be without a period, so give your body a couple of months to get regular again; also, don't be surprised if your periods are heavier or lighter, or just plain *different* than they were before you became pregnant.

You probably know this, but just in case - don't assume that because you haven't had a period yet that you haven't ovulated; if you don't want to become pregnant again right away, it's a good idea to use birth control until your cycles have re-established themselves.

This is normal. Sometimes it can take as long as 2-3 months for milk to dry up. As far as your period goes, give it a couple of more weeks. It takes time for your body to return to normal. Your body hasn't been normal for a year and a half. Give your body some time, it will work everything out. If you don't get your period within the next 4 weeks, then if it was me, I would go see the doctor. It does take time for your body to return to it's normal functionings. Everyone is different, for you it may take just a bit longer than it could for somebody else. Just be patient and enjoy not having your period!

Sounds normal to me. You nursed for quite a long time. It might just take awhile longer to get your period back.

If you suspect you might be pregnant, you can always take a test to be sure.

As for the milk not drying up. That took a long time to happen for me. Even like 6 months after I stopped nursing I still had some milk left lol.

This is completely normal! I breastfed four babies and each time it took a month or so for my period to start once they were weaned. And the leaking will continue for awhile. Even after several months I was able to squeeze out a few drops of milk. You sound completely normal to me!

Yes it is normal. Your body is adjusting to everything and it takes a while for that to happen. Your cycle will have to start again, you will have to ovulate and then you should see a period.
Milk doesn't dry up over night - you may experience the 'let-down' sensation for a month or 2 after the fact and along with let-down you may leak. This will eventually stop and everything will go back to how it used to be.

It isn't odd that your period hasn't come yet or that you are still leaking. I continued leaking for years after I had my son. That probably wasn't normal. He's been weaned for over 6 years now and the milk is almost gone. But leaking for several weeks is not weird.

It took me a while to dry up totally. And I think it was about 6 weeks before I got my period again. You probably won't get a period until you stop producing milk. But if you feel uncomfortable-call your doctor.

I have no idea about the period, but it took forever for my breasts to dry up completely.

And that guy who is saying the garbage about you using breast feeding as a form of birth control is obviously a troll. Have you read his other posts? If you had not been breastfeeding he would have criticized you for not loving your baby enough:)
