The best thing for you to do would be to go to your local shelter and ADOPT a dog. It won't be free, but it will be reasonably priced and you won't have to worry about the dog being unhealthy.

Try the Walker or Tuscaloosa Humane Society (I think there are actually two in Tuscaloosa). The Daily Mountain Eagle in Jasper has an online web site. Check out the local vet office. In Jasper, shots run about $35 dollars and spay/nueter about $75. By the way, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson and Cullman Humane Societies all are listed on petfinders.com., but Walker is not.

Why do you want a free dog? You will get what you pay for...no shots, not fixed, who knows what kind of other problems.
If you can't afford an adoption fee, how will you pay for vet bills, food, toys, bedding, etc. To properly care for a pet costs a good $1000 a year, conservatively.

you can go to craigslist.com in the pets section- for your specific local area and there are ALOT of animals there that NEED homes!
