"paid for food, favors, and travel because she insisted I have it in a city I live 3 hours away from" What is it about showers that causes people to forget the word NO?!? Honest to God, I'll never understand this! I've hosted several bridal showers, and if the bride was ever rude enough to tell me - the hostess - where the event would be held, I'd decline it so fast her head would spin. As for the other 2 showers, you should not have been invited to these, and just keeping it real, this is the fault of your best friend. When multiple showers are held, SHE is the one responsible for providing the guest list, and she is the one who needs to make sure people aren't invited to more than one. That's because gifts are mandatory at a shower. In fact, it's considered rude to show up at one without a gift. So there's your answer. If you attend these showers, you do bring a gift. The obvious solution to that is decline both showers. Like they say, an invite is not a summons, and being MOH has nothing to do with this. As MOH, all you're technically agreeing to is buying your dress and showing up for the wedding. Anything after that is what you choose to do. PS - Also, on hair/makeup/nails, if the bride is requiring this, it's her job to pay for it. Again, dress and maybe shoes is all you're obligated for.

A good drink would be Manhattans or Cosmopolitans! Some food...that's tough-when I think of NYC, I think of hot dogs on the street, and that's not really appropriate for a shower.
You could focus on Broadway-get the names of currently running plays, and do your foods, decorations based on those...
Why a NYC themed shower? She's from there? They're going there? What about NYC is the draw--you should focus on teh reason behind that, and go from there.

Decorate signs for 5th Ave shops. Have everyone wrap their gifts in Tiffany's blue boxes. Like others said, definitely serve the Cosmos and Manhattans. I definitely like pulling Broadway into it.
Everyone has to wear black. Mostly just pictures of the skyline. And you have to have cabs. Maybe a cab shaped cake? I dont know but when I think of NYC I think of all the cabs.
But you know how everyone has the bride wear like a fake veil or a tiara or something--I think it would be cute to get one of those foam Statue of Liberty crowns and have her wear that.

When I think of NYC.. I of couse, think of apples... It's the "big apple" afterall.. For favors they make apple candles you could wrap in cellophane or for a centerpiece you could have a fruit display of apples. Also I think of cheesecake and tall buildings.. You could hand out gift cards for The Cheesecake Factory as prizes or little binoculors for sightseeing. It could be like a dress up party with everyone looking fancy. Type in NYC online and see what comes up.
