Visit the university you're interested in attending and apply for financial aid there. They will tell you what is available through that campus. Consider applying for work-study money. This means you work for pay while attending school.

If you are interested in a particular field, such as psychology or engineering, call that department on the campus of the university you might like to attend. Ask if there are any work study jobs within the department for students with that major. Sometimes there are little jobs that aren't publically announced that are saved for people in that major.

Consider attending a community college for your first two years of school, or in order to get your required core credits out of the way. They are much less expensive in most cases than 4 year colleges, and the core credits you earn will transfer to most 4 year colleges. You can still apply for financial aid at community colleges, too.

Then, start searching online for grants, scholarships, etc. You may have some personal qualities or something in your background that may allow you to get money from various groups. Members of certain ethnic groups, low income people, people whose parents didn't attend college, people whose parents worked in certain fields or who belonged to certain organizations may be eligible for certain funds.

Also, you might seek entry level employment at a company that provides matching funds for college. Some restaurants, oil companies, high tech firms, etc. may hire you to perform entry level tasks and reimburse you for attending college.

Determine what you want to study and see what you can do about meeting people in that field. They may have ideas about how to raise funds for school.

I'm very happy for you that you've made this decision to go to college. It will pay off for you, I'm sure! Best of luck!
