Does anyone here live in or near Evansville? Or does anyone know about Evansville? I am thinking of moving there and I was wondering what is the good part and the bad part of town was. I am a middle aged man. I am not a partier or drug head and I do not want to be looking for a place in the wrong part of town. I currently live in the Denver area, so it's not like I can go check it out. Is the east side better/worse than the west? How about the north side or the south side? Is there small towns close to evansville that are decent and not overrun with drugs and gangs?

Ahhh, Evansville.

Evansville has evolved a lot over the years. Two of the newer employers are Toyota and the Casino but there are also the typical banks, utility and manufacturing resources there.

As for living, that depends on what you are looking for. Evansville isn't real big on high-rises although there is some work going on renovating downtown buildings into lofts.

By and large the downtown area is very limited on living. There's the historic district near the river and little else (except for above mentioned loft conversions).

Going East from downtown gets grizzly until you pass the University of Evansville (Weinbach Ave). Then you enter a mix of 1930's to modern buildings in decent areas. South of Covert gets dicey.

The more expensive places will be further away from the center of town (which is really Eastland Mall on Green River Road between Lloyd Xwy and Morgan Ave). They are the new housing developments.

I admit I don't know much about West of Hwy 41 except downtown. I know that North of Diamond Avenue has some nice places.

Outside Evansville there's Newburgh to the East and to the West New Harmony.

P.S. You are going to move across country without ever visiting? That's nuts.

Hi there!

I actually have an uncle that lives in Boonville, Indiana, which is about 20 minutes outside of Evansville. I've been there a few times and it seems like a very nice area. It's more of a rural town, and doesn't have the hustle and bustle of downtown Evansville. I would suggest typing in "Boonville, Indiana" in the Yahoo! search engine and seeing what you come up with. It might be able to give you a better insight into the town itself. Hope this helps! :)
