I was engaged 2 times in my life, the 1st time, i was 19, that one we didn't go though with the marriage (we were too young and I change and realized he wasn't right for me). The 2nd time I was 22, and we've been married for almost 5 years.

As far as I know, you can get married at 16 with parental consent.
Engagement is a different story. I would think that anyone can announce an engagement (serious engagement, I mean, not two little kids running around the yard in a sheet and a tie pretending to be getting married), at any age, so long as both parental parties agree. Yes, it's rather 3rd world, but it's true.
As far as when you SHOULD: that's up to you and the person you're with. I myself am engaged, and we're only 18 and 19 years old.

I believe that its okay to be engaged at 17 or higher of course, but should wait to get married till after highschool and have a good job, anywhere from 20 up to be married.
I think those who get engaged before 17 really dont understand what they are in for, and should really focus on being a teenager than a wife/husband. Your only a teenager for only so long why not enjoy it and wait to grow up later on.

I got engaged at 19, but I told him that we had to wait for a couple of years to make sure that was what we both really wanted. We both wanted to be 21 before the wedding and out of college. We waited 3 years.
Sometimes I think that is too young but we have grown together for the last 9 years. We started dateing in eighth grade, we broke up a few times to be with other people but we always found each other to be the best company. We are happily married with a daughter and hopefully another one on the way soon. Good advice is to have a steady job that you like and things going in the direction you want it to. Saving money is hard after you are married young.
We are happy but struggling!
Good luck! I know you will make the best choice. If you are unsure if he is for you...ask your mom what she thinks...don't interupt her just listen...she may see things you don't want to see!! Or someone that you are close to!

I'm 21 and was engaged in September. I'll be 22 when we wed this July. We'll have both graduated college and I still plan on going to grad school, and he already has a job. I would say once you are out of college you have a much better view of what you want your life to be, so once you are out or almost out of school it's OK to get engaged, anything earlier might be too soon, but that's just my opinion.
