That's thick enough to hold a snowmobile. Yes. 2 1/2 is the minimum requirements for riding a snowmobile on the ice. You should be good.

I would not recommend it! Think about it is there any real reason you should take this risk. Yes 3 inches of Good hard ice should support a sled but if it is not good ice, ice not from frozen snow that would have some air in it, it may not be strong enough. Also keep in mind that you are moving and you could hit a spot that is thinner, could be from anything a spring, moving water current,an air bubble. And last when you move along in any vehicle it creates a wave which gets larger as speeds increase and this could cause a break threw if you encounter a thin spot. So please stay off if you must wait for at least a foot and keep away from moving water such as a rivers. DON' PUT YOUR LIFE IN DANGER!

Honestly Buddy, I wouldn't risk it myself...People here have given you the "Statistics" of the recommended "inches" on Riding a Snowmobile...BUT have they TRIED it themselves?!! NAH, didn't think so myself...I, on the other hand, have done so myself, and let me assure you buddy..it depends on the type of snowmbile you will be riding!!! (Long, Short, Big on Weight.;.etc;) Cuz, the Ice was about 4 or 5 inches thick when I slipped halfway in!!! Seriously...no kidding you!..It isn't that I don't know how to ride...maybe I overdid it myself...but who knows~ Well, Buddy, have fun! and remember...TRY it yourself...then later on, YOU will know if it's okay or not okay to ride when the Ice is about 3 inches thick....ITS all in the mind, the Rider and the Flippin' Mobile!!! lol =)

Ok, but measure 3" in the middle, not shores. (Snowmobile out to check, bring dry clothes).

If it's 3" in the middle! You can actually ride your sled on a lake when it's not frozen so if you are wide open, you'll be fine!
