There is a Yahoo group called Freecycle which runs nationwide in the UK. The idea is that you offer anything unwanted which others might be able to use and can also ask for or accept offers from the group, all in order to keep as much stuff out of landfill as possible. You might like to join your local group and, once you have put in an offer or two (which could be anything from spare wool to a TV and everything in between), you can ask for help with paint. You should find your local group by putting Freecycle in yuor search engine.

Good luck and remember this horse lover is soooo jealous!

Go to Lowes or Home Depot or any other paint store in your area and ask them for whats called Oops paint. Its paint that some people have mixed for them, but they never come back to pick it up, or it was not the right color, or whatever.... But you can get a gallon for as little as $3 to $5... it usually goes for about $10, but hey, they also have quart cans too for a buck or two, tops.

Here in Canada, we can't just toss out paint... we have a toxic dump we take it to. Once it's at the dump, they check to see if it's any good. If there is enough for a small job and the paint is in good shape, they put it on a shelf for consumers to pick up for free! The ultimate recycling! Check with your local government to see if you have something similar...

Good Luck!

Go down to B and Q, buy the paint you need but more of it. Get home and pour half to three quarters of one into another container. Be careful not to damage the tin. Now fill it back up with water and a SMALL quantity of self raising flour and stir it all up. Reseal the tin take it back and get a refund. Job done, never fails

Jeff the drunk's answer is what I would say but I will add that you can mix and match at home to get what you want. White lightens and so forth. Remember paint color is different dry from wet and in different lighting scenarios.

Habitat for Humanity has a place called ReStore that sells used building materials, etc. I believe they also carry paint.

Try your local diy store they always have paint that has been mixed incorrectly, also tins that have been spilt with only half the contents left.

try thrift stores, ask paint contracters for leftovers or check hard-
ware and paintstores for returned mixed paints or wrong colors.
You might want to check with family and friends or neighbours
and ask if they have any old cans of paint laying around they'd like
to get rid of.Then you could even mix your own colors and be o-
riginal.

i think that home improvement places, lowes, home depot, may sell gallons of mixed colors that customers did not want really cheap. if you went to an independent paint store they may be willing to donate any they have lying around that previous customers did not want.
