What's your definition of over come? Why can't the both of you grow together and compliment each other's economic and social growth? Winning does not have to be a Zero-sum outcome. Instead of fighting for a large piece of the pie, i think these two countries can make the pie larger.

Thanks Mr President,
I feel quite privileged to come with yahoo. Yes, certainly India can overcome China one day. We have all the potential to do this. We have scientific know how, technology, and more importantly the man power. The Human resources are the assets of present economic condition. For example, globalisation and economic liberalisation made many MN Cs to come and set up their base in India, which of course is not with China. India has the potential of mental power much more then the Chinese. We have made tremendous progress in last 54 years compared to Chinese in the same period. Today India is the super power in Information Technology and is ruling the world. Soon we are going to see the same phase of development in other Fields as well.
Thus we can say comfortably that soon India will overcome China in all the fields. Thanks.

The question should be: Will India ever be like today's China. The interesting fact is that both of the countries have similar social structures. Both have patriarchal societies. Even the philosophy in life for the two countries are very similar as opposed to (or in compliance with) the Western thought.
China made some great leaps in the past 20 years and are reaping their harvest today.
Let us compare the following to reach for the answers:
Our Roads Vs China roads (Roads are a very good indicator of a country's economic condition)
Our Infrastructure Vs Chinese system
Our Population growth rate Vs their growth rate. The Chinese realised that their population was going to explode long before us and have take active and sometimes unpopular steps to curb it. Their population growth is currently very low.
There are areas where India is doing better, but to reach our economic boom, we have to learn some lessons from China.

India will overcome china definately, but at now, at this situation of india it seems to be impossible. Because comparatively there is less literacy in India especially in rural areas. Most important thing is very less availability of basic facilities and infrastructure like roads, railways, transoprtation facilities. India and our people want to make India super power ,the world best country but in India there is democracy, so at now Congress also doesn't have full support of left parties. This is most important factor in India. At now there is no clear majority of congress, govt. is made with the help of several political parties. Untill any one political parth has clear majority no party can drive India to the world best country. Government offices are also corrupted. It should not be corrupted. In govt. and every where there is reserved quota, due to that many times qualified people also can not do work effeciently. And also many other factors stop india to be a world best country.

I am not sure about the basis applied to come to the conclusion that India is behind China.
If it is pure economics maybe you are right, but there are so many other areas where India is way ahead of China (e.g. legal system, human rights, freedom of speech, freedom of religion etc.)
If I reverse the question and ask you haw long will it take for China to overcome India how will you answer that?

There is a good possibility it will overcome China. It's a question of infrastructure vs corruption. China has the infrastructure and the corruption. China is a very dangerous place to work. For example 10,000 Chinese coal miners die each year and much of the water is polluted. China also has massive corruption which has caused them to go from the number one exporter to the number one importer of coal in one year (it wasn't because of growth, just red tape). If you ask a CEO how many workers he has, he probably won't know because companies often pay their workers under the table so they don't have to pay as much in taxes. When somebody asks for a photo of the company, they might send a picture of another company in another part of the world. Also piracy runs rampent in China. Something like 80% of their entertainment is pirated. They even counterfiet medicine, elevators and vehicals. Who wants to have medicine painted with the same paint as that used on roads? I have a feeling that China will implode economically. India just has to be responsible and less corrupt than everyone else.

Plsss, anyone with a common sense and has been to both china and india( i have been to both countries) will tell the difference, new delhi is one of the best examples, eg. slums everywhere, a huge contrast between the rich condo-owners and the slum dwellers, where as beijing and shanghai and other places are full of industralization and modernization. So the answer is simply----no.
