The tower of babel was built by Nimrod and he was a very wicked man who chose to defy God and lift himself above God. He and his wife Semiramis began all the now known pagan religions of the world. Here is where child sacrifices began, and mother and child worship...often seen in Hinduism and Buddhism, and you can read more about them by researching their names, Nimrod, Semiramis Queen of Heaven. The tower was not actually going to reach heaven but it did in a way in that it so angered God by the attitude of those who built it that He changed the languages and confused their progress.

I have always wondered that my self. I think the tower of babel was trying to reach the heaven, but eventually became structurally unstable fell and knocked everyone into speaking different languages. I think that was God's way of staying that no moral eye can gaze upon me.

I don't believe that story at all but IF it were true, I don't think they had any chance of reaching heaven and it was never going to happen anyway. That curse of different tongues was the punishment for attempting to do something so outrageous. Kind of like, 'how dare you people even try to do something like that, now you are in trouble...'

The, "Building the tallest tower, object, statue, sky scraper, is ongoing. As for God changing the tongues of the different family groups, it is because the people were not fulfilling the one and only commandment that "He" had given them; Multiply and fill the earth. They were collecting into one great city. God said; It is not good for people to gather in one city. We know today what the problems would be, with suppling fresh water, and sewage facilitys, let alone the movement of people. If God had not changed the tougues, would all the earths population still be gathered around it?

Most likely just a story. All religions have stories that are similar... showing the power of the God when mortals disobey. Chances are they were building something... doubtful they were trying to reach heaven with it... most likely it was just the home of the King of Babylon.
So far, in archeology, there isn't any evidence of anything like this.

It's an irrational fairy tale, so no.
But if we're going to pretend this stuff was true, then yes. Somehow ancient men made a tower so tall that it was going to reach heaven! Apparently, god gave them different languages that just happen to be similar to each other based on geographical proximity. It's almost as if man migrated from africa and language changed naturally . . .
If I pretend to believe this stuff I would give you the christian's list of obligatory answers: misinterpretation, not literal, mysterious ways, and/or god did it/god god god.

perchance there became a civilization in historic cases with a lot more effective technologies than we realized. "Heaven" in Genesis 11.4 is the Hebrew shamayim ???????? . it would want to signify the earth's environment, area, or heaven. Even today human beings each so often say "the heavens" even as they are speaking about area. perchance there became more effective to the tower than we understand. perchance of their delight they concept they could do more effective than became plausible. although the passage seems to say that they were able to doing more effective than God wanted to allow them on the prompt. today we may be able to bypass into area. adult men today imagine that they are gods and do not want God. God facilitates this to take position today because we are close to the top of the international. today English is something of a universe language international. Math and technology are even more effective conventional. in basic terms as God stopped the tower, he will quickly pull the plug on us.

No. It never would have reached heaven. They were cursed because in their hearts they defied God by believing they could be as "high" as him. The tower was built to worship angels, not God, and the might of men, not God. Commandment number 1: Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Its the same reason Lucifer was cast out of heaven; he took God's glory for himself. He wanted a name for himself that was above God's name. God defeated every one who tried to be mightier than Him. I guess that makes Him the mightiest, eh?

The Story is probably not a historical one, but rather a myth (not meant to be a pejorative term) that explains the many languages encountered by the ancient Israelites, as well as one which also emphasizes the importance of obedience to YHWH.

No, they were trying to reach out toward Heaven, measuring it and possibly trying to communicate with aliens. By measuring things, we claim ownership over them. That's why God forbade census taking in ancient Israel. Those People belonged to God, not to their kings. Similarly, by measuring the heavens, Nebbie was claiming ownership of God's Home. Not smart.
