You should talk to a doc. Different states have different laws. If your state will allow you to get physical therapy without a doc's perscription, you can go to a reputable physical therapist and give details of your problem. They should be able to give you stretches and exercises and help you learn how to do them without causing more problems. If needed, they can do hands on massage to help calm things down in your back. Your back could have spasms, which cause pain. You treat the pain, but the spasm may still be there. You need to find out what is causing the pain in your back. Then you can find out what options you have. I don't have COPD but I have dealt with upper and lower back pain for 12 years. Get some help from a doc or a physical therapist, or both. Once you learn about your back, you can learn what to do to prevent or "treat" the pain with other than meds. Good Luck!

There is an herbal teal containing no caffeine or preservatives:
Muscles Spinal & Back
(Eucommia Herbal Tea)
Royal King
Exclusively Distributed by:
Herba Natural Products, Inc.
Brooklyn, NY 11232
www.herbanatural.com
There is also a pain reliver called Tiger Balm Extra Strength which provides soothing relief for aches and pains due to backaches, arthritis and overexertion of joints, pains, stiffness and sprains.
http://hocks.com
Both are extremely cheap, and surprisingly effective, when used in conjunction with one another. Both can be used when you wake up in the morning, frequently throughout the day, and before bedtime before your pain brings you to tears, without side effects or interferring with your COPD, and the herbal teal may actually increase your oxygen delivery.

Well I am not sure if it will help but my husband had back surgury a little over 2 years ago he was 25 and hurt his back at work.
You know after he had his surgury he had to go to physical therapy they would do a little shock treatment on his back which sometimes it helped and sometimes it didn't,they also had this big gel pack that you could make it hot or cold his insurance paid for it but i think they said it was 50.00. i know exspensive but he really liked it other than that you could try a heating pad or take a frozon bag of corn which ever you prefer hot or cold. you might could call a physical therapy place and get some more ideas.
try when you sleep to put a pillow between your legs if you sleep on your side and if you are on your back try a pillow under your legs but not to high. also you could try a chiropracter. I don't know what your situation is exactly but I hope i gave you some good ideas that will help you!! I know how hard it was for him and he tried everything but nothing really worked for long and he hated to take the pills to. but I think he is doing alot! better now since surgury. Good Luck. you will be in my prayers!

pulled muscle most likely. if he tore his acl he would have been limping during the walk/ uphill jog. If he pulled his muscle it wouldnt really have bothered him as much until the inflamation set in, and thats why it took him awhile to not bare weight and then to limp. He needs to be rested this weekend, leash walks to go potty then right back inside, no running no jumping. Monday you need to go to the vet and have them take a look, usually they dispence a NSAID, nonsteroidal anti-inflamitory drug to help with the pain and inflamation. Whatever you do DON'T give him human medication, drugs like tylenol and Ibuprofin kill dogs even if you give them a tiny amount. It attacks there liver and kidneys and will shut them down. The best thing is rest and if you really want to be proactive you can ice pack his knee if he lets you, dont push it though if he doesnt want you to. Up to 3 times a day for 5 minutes each is best. Good luck

Wow, Im really sorry ur in so much pain. The best thing I could suggest is a heating pad, electronic back massager, or the most soothing thing is to get into a very very warm bathtub with relaxing sea salts....I hope u start to feel better!

There are some pressure points in your hand and feet for spine/back. When some one will press on those points you will feel severe pain. If you or someone could press these points slowly for 3-4 minutes your pain will subside up to certain extant. You could find pressure points for back on the Internet

Get a Bonnie Pruden book on exercises. I do not hacve back pain, but my boyfriend does and he swears by the exercises and doesn't have to take pain medication.
Keep your weight stable and low. Make sure that you don't have excess belly fat as this puts a strain on your lower back muscles.
