i am getting it professionly trained right now and later i want to train to be a guard/attack dog, i was just wondering if anybody knows the laws on different scenarios if my dog were to actually attack some one. like if i were on my property and felt threatend and my dog was to attack on my command, could i get sued or get in trouble, arrested, or what. If you know any other sceneros that would be benificial to me please list and explain, thank you very much!!!

I have bred raised and trained German shepherds for years. Congrats on getting a wonderful friend investment and possibly the best dog you will ever own if taken care of properly. I have trained for the policedepartment and personal protection. I have a protector patrolling my property right now and she is very good at her job. No one has anything to fear from her as long as they aren't doing something they shouldn't she is a sweet and friendly dog. The absolute WORST thing you can do is buy a beware of dog sign you will indeed be sued because you had a dangerous animal and you knew it. I would highly recomend fencing your property and posting it in several places with signs that state your property is patrolled by trained protection dogs. This means anyone coming on your property is warned your dog is not dangerous but he has a job to do and will do it. It can release you from some liability. Nothing is foolproof every situation is different and you just have to be prepared for the risks just as if you owned another weapon. I caution you strongly to think this through before doing it because a protection trained animal is a weapon and must be treated with respect and handled responsibly. I would reccomend bite training. It teaches the dog to restrain and detain. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

Here in OH, protection dogs are pretty much treated the same way as a weapon or any other deadly force that can be used. If you can prove that your life or the life of others were in danger then you can not be sued. However if the law feels like you used too much force to subdue someone you can be sued or end up in jail.

yes you can and most likely will be sued but more imortantly, why on earth would you want to have a pet trained to be a guard dog?!?!?!? if you go thru with this,i foresee you having to have the dog put to sleep cos most states won`t let a dog live if they bite or attack people, plus you can go to jail if you dog does attack someone and you have trained it to guard.

A trained attack dog is a weapon. No different from a gun or knife.Legally you would be at fault. My question to you is why would you want to take a great family pet and turn it into a weapon.? Is it to stroke your ego?!
