I have a 5 yr old and she has a little friend that wants her to come over to her house to play her mother has givin us her phone # and the little girl asks everyday that they have school if she can come over. Im not thrilled about this I tryed to get to know the mother and got strange vibes. I would like to keep the play dates on nutural grounds like the play ground (not at someones home) How do I tell her this without sounding rude? and am I bring over protective?

You are not being rude. It is up to you to make sure your child is safe if you aren't getting a good vibe go with it. Try inviting them both to your house for lunch or saying next time.. We were going to McDonald's after school today why don't you 2 join us there. And yes it is ok to say you just aren't ready for your daughter to go to someone's house yet. My daughter new her best friend for 2 years before I let her go there and 4 years before I let her spend the night.

At the tender age of five it's perfectly normal for the parent to come over and stay with the child for a playdate. We used to play games with the kids, color and do activities and sometimes had time to chat and get to know each other. You're not being over protective. Once your daughter is older and you know the people well you'll feel more comfortable letting her go on playdates by herself. Don't do it until your comfortable though. You're a good mother. Good Luck!

no not being rude. protect your kids with all you have. i dont let my 9 yr old daughter spend the night with girls that have older brothers. screw that. but just always say no unless its at a play mcdonalds or somewhere nutreul or invite the girl to your home. just for a few hours.

Suggest that you meet at a park or playplace for your first playdate. Maybe see if there are other moms in the class that would like to meet also.
