Go and visit a hearing professional. This may take the form of an audiologist or hearing instrument specialist. They will test your hearing and check for medical conditions, if they find one they will refer you to an ENT specialist for a medical examination.
From your question I assume you've ruled out medical conditions.
You need to find a hearing professional that knows what (s)he is talking about and has plenty of experience successfully fitting people with hearing aids. Make sure that the professional is the one who tests you. Some centers allow technicians to test, and then the 'expert' comes in to interpret the results. This is unacceptable. This means that the 'professional' is too lazy to test your hearing and thinks that (s)he is too important to waste their time with you. A good hearing professional will test you themselves.
You need to make sure you get a free trial period with no cancellation fee if you are not happy. This period should be at least 30 days.
I personally would only buy a hearing aid from a professional who provided an excellent explanation of the problem and then fitted me with a real digital hearing aid as part of the consultation. I make sure that all hearing impaired patients get the chance to hear a real hearing aid system before they leave my office. Any professional that doesn't do this is lazy and I would not trust them to help me.
I also think that the American brands are the best aids, and that is not just flag waving, I really believe that. I think that Starkey is great, and in terms of non-American brands I like ReSound, Oticon and Widex. Don't touch Miracle Ear.
Expect to pay $2,500 per ear or more to get a fine quality system. Try to ensure that all follow up visits are free.

Go to a professional and have your hearing tested. If you need a hearing aid they will make one for you to suit your needs. A real hearing aid is like glasses, designed for you. If you are talking one of those miracle ear things those are just amplifiers and aren't really what you should buy.
